V-Lux 1

Since I have bought V-LUX 1 I have photographed more than 300 JEPG files and 50 RAW files.Ofcourse it is compared to any DSLR slow only but by using extrem cards I have got 2.5 frames per second in continuous high speed mode in JEPG fine and autofocusing set on 1-area high speed, with which I have captured number of action shots in wildlife.I am using Panasonic professional card which works very well in V LUX-1.

With regards,

P.Ramanan.

Alternatively (and this applies to the D3/L1/LC1/D2 as well) - use manual focus (set to probably infinity in the case of wild life) and rely on the depth of field. If the camera does not have to worry about focusing it makes for considerably faster shooting. I would agree that shooting in burst mode would be best for moving animals/birds.

Brian & P.,

Thank you both for the insights.

I am new to this site and have noticed that I have to regesiter 3 to 4 times before I'm allowed to reply or post. What am I doing wrong?

I'm looking for a good tutorial in using the V-lux 1, do you know of any? What about seminars?

Does anyone out know of class available to us in the USA?

Peace,

3rdeye

You should only have to register once, of course.

Drop a PM to "admin", explaining your problem. There may be a database corruption or something techy like that.

The triangle is so that you can report posts you find are outside the forum's rules to the Mods. You have read the Forum Rules, haven't you? ;)

Hi,

Is v-lux 1 sufficient for an Aftrican safari? How do I capture fast movement with this slightly slower camera?

What do you mean by "slightly slower"? The attached shot is at 1/500th sec, 1/2000th should be fast enough for anything, I would have thought. (This was actually shot on an FZ-30, which I used before getting the V-Lux, to all intents they are identical).

My technique is normally to set the shutter speed manually and pre-focus by half depressing the shutter, not often that I miss a shot.

Of course animals may not always be predictable in the direction they move in but you should be OK. I would not use all-auto if you are concerned about missing a shot.

Are they slow to get going on start up? The DMR is awful for this, but I am sure they can fix that in firmware, just like they have for the M8...

From "switched off" to ready to shoot is 1.2 sec; from "power save" to ready to shoot is 1.4 sec, according to my NATO issue military chronograph! :D So that's not a problem.

Do you know, I knew that I should have bought the chrono watch on Saturday, rather than one that just tells the time. :) "Boys toys" was how the lady in the jewellers described the chrono watches - probably after she'd sussed that I wanted something slightly less "in ya face" :)

However, if only I'd had the foresight to do so, I could have recorded the time the DMR takes to switch on.

OTOH, that sundial on the house up the road would be accurate enough for that task... :)
