Anatomy and the M8

Well, I went and looked at the link above and am

1. very impressed with Steve's photography skills, and

2. very upset with the anorexia.

I find it interesting that the model was not interested in Steve's lecture about eating better (his words). It is a shame that the LEGITIMATE (if the adjective really fits) fashion and fashion magazine industry promote this shape.

This shape (too thin) is analogous to the porn industry, where the subject (this young woman) is being rewarded for behavior that is injurious in the long term. This woman will suffer from organ degeneration and may even have a heart attack as a result of poor nutrition.

Steve -- nice pix and thanks for sharing, especially the part about speaking up to the model about diet.

I would like to have some technical facts about the second shot (the one from the rear) where the shoulders disappear into whiteout. Would you describe the lighting that you used to accomplish this?

Agreed on all counts...

Apart from the fact that personally I like a bit of meat on a woman (:D), I think the industry does no credit to itself by encouraging young women to maintain this kind of body shape. To me, it's just not attractive. When I saw this shoot I actually called my wife over to see what she thought..... and I couldn't possibly repeat her words here.....

Interesting shots and nice work but what really is upsetting is her weight. She is just way to thin for her own health, maybe that is my Italian upbringing is to eat. She is probably not much older than my daughter and my wife and I would be stuffing food down her if she was this thin. But to each his or her own

Hey chaps

the problem in the world at the moment is obesity - it's also eating disorders, but mainly it's obesity. I see no evidence that she's anorexic.

This girl looks happy and smiling and healthy - she doesn't have shrunken cheeks.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating unhealthily skinny models, but I think there's a real danger of wrong priorities here. Most of the 'healthy' looking models have breast implants/botox whatever, and it's fashionable and universal to criticise skinny models, but maybe it wouldn't do so much harm for people to aim to be a little thinner.

I notice that in 1954 the largest available chest size for students in the UK was 36", now it's 54"
