photolandscape Posted April 10, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted April 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I sent my 90mm Elmarit in to Leica and had it coded a couple of months ago to use on my M8. I have had several occasions to use the lens, and aside from a little blurring to be expected in low-light situations, it has helped produce some great results. Â One potential problem--I noticed last night that when I look at the meta data for the shots I've taken with the 90mm Elmarit, the aperture is always recorded at f/2, and it doesn't recognize or record the data identifying it as a 90mm lens. Â Any thoughts on what to do next? Return to Leica to check coding? I'll check Carsten W's coding diagram to make sure I've got the correct coding ring installed. Venkman Posted April 10, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted April 10, 2007 Question: Do you have lens recognition activated? As for aperture, that's not gonna be written in the EXIF, since it can't be communicated from lens to camera.
photolandscape Posted April 10, 2007 Author Share #3 Â Posted April 10, 2007 Dirk, I do have lens detection enabled. It sounds like I may not have a problem if data for aperture isn't recorded or transmitted in the EXIF.
robsteve Posted April 10, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted April 10, 2007 What firmware is on your camera? There were errors in the lens codes fixed in 1.92. There may still be error if your lens is coded correctly and shows f2 as the maximum aperture.

robsteve Posted April 10, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted April 10, 2007 Does the code on your lens look like this picture of a 90mm Elmarit-M mount, found on Carsten's web page? Â Â If it looks like that, it is probably a firmware problem that hasn't been sorted out yet. Â Robert
carstenw Posted April 10, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted April 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Early on some other lenses had the wrong max aperture, like the 35 Cron Asph, and the 35 Lux Asph, I think. They were both recorded as f/1, IIRC. Leica corrected them in 1.092. If this is similar, I presume that they will correct it in the next firmware release, as long as someone mentions it to them. adan Posted April 11, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted April 11, 2007 I think Leica said they had given up on recording the actual shooting aperture in EXIF data, because the blue-window comparative light system was only accurate to +/- 1.5 stops. Â Close enough for any image correcting, but not (ITHO) for a permanent record. Â However the MAXIMUM aperture should be recorded correctly. My 90 Tele-Elmarit-M (just back from Leica with coding) shows up correctly - f/2.8. Either firmware still has a burp in it, or they put a Summicron ring on your lens.
