Westend_jon Posted August 24, 2013 Share #1 Posted August 24, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi struggling to understand the different variations of this lens... I've just bought the above with a serial number of 1108435 which appears to belong to an LTM mount 35mm Summaron. This is an M lens and as it brings up 50mm frame lines on my M8 I assume it's an early lens for the M3 with external viewfinder? Everything works fine by the way and it came with a nice ITDOO hood too. It looks very neat on the M8 (mines a chrome one) and tiny compared to my usual standard lens which is a non Asph 28mm F2.8 Elmar.
Advertisement Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Hi Westend_jon, Take a look here Summaron 35mm F3.5 M Mount, which version?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Rick Posted August 24, 2013 Share #2 Posted August 24, 2013 Hi Jon - I have the screw mount version of this lens. Your lens was made in 1953. The first reported Summaron 35/3.5 lenses (SOONC-M) were released in 1954. You probably have one of the first years, the M version, if your lens and shade look like this one pictured in the link below. The external viewfinder that was used on the M3 was the SBLOO and can be seen in the post below. Of course, the M3 pictured below was introduced in 1954. http://br.collection.pagesperso-orange.fr/leica/images/M3700.jpg (There was also a version with the goggles): http://br.collection.pagesperso-orange.fr/leica/images/M3750.jpg
Rick Posted August 24, 2013 Share #3 Posted August 24, 2013 Jon - I found the original post that talks about those pictures. I keep the links to these things that are about lenses I own. This link shows the thread that references those pictures. This link gives a little more credit to a wonderful collection often shared here. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-collectors-historica/81544-little-26-a.html
