Advertisement Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Hi dwbell, Take a look here Tech Question re Greycard WB. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Printmaker Posted August 26, 2013 Share #22 Posted August 26, 2013 I always include an Op white/grey/black card and a Kodak Q13 scale on all of my repo shots even though my set up is profiled and rarely varies. Having these controls allows me to go in with Photoshop and use the eyedroppers in the curves menu to set exactly the amount of highlight and shadow detail. And using the eyedropper in the grey patch gives me the perfect "white" balance. If don't use an Op, Q13 or Macbeth card then you can manually set the balance in Camera Raw. Click on curves then use the eye dropper to set your your white balance on any white object (it takes practice to find which one to use). You can then go back and check the main menu to see the resulting color temperature. Most of the time you'll just want to fuss with the color temperature till your shot looks pleasing but if you find yourself shooting commercially and need your colors to be true (like fashion or catalog work), then a grey scale or white/grey/black card becomes your best friend. Just use one for the first shot of every lighting setup and then use the settings you get when processing the rest of the shoot.
dwbell Posted August 27, 2013 Author Share #23 Posted August 27, 2013 Erm, Ok. I do as you do. But with GTMB or passport. But do you have an idea on my OP question?
MirekE Posted August 27, 2013 Share #24 Posted August 27, 2013 I think the easiest thing right now to address the issue is to use a warm/cold balance card instead of neutral one.
Printmaker Posted August 27, 2013 Share #25 Posted August 27, 2013 Erm, Ok. I do as you do. But with GTMB or passport. But do you have an idea on my OP question? What I was saying was that a white/grey/black card, scale or MB card is also a tool to allow you to control a lot more things than just color temperature. As for the original question, well you get that info when you open the file - just like all of my other cameras and backs. You can always buy a meter that will give you a Kelvin reading and set that reading (plus or minus if you like) on your Leica. They tend to be expensive though. Maybe if questions like this pop up often enough, you'll get a CT reading when you hit the info button on a future firmware update or the next model. Leica does monitor this forum. Wine, complain and nag - it works... if enough users do!
