A query about Leica 'Post' Cameras

I have a good reason for asking so here goes. M series 'Post' cameras seem to have been built by Leica over a considerable time period. From my web researches, some appear to have been modified versions of currently available models complete with rangefinder, and the last may well have been MD-2/M4P versions (my assumption is that these were probably replacements for 'Post' cameras damaged or no longer usable for their intended purpose).

Has anyone got any definitive information abot numbers produced and dates between which they were built. I know that some odd modifications were made and several lenses seem to have been used - again does anyone have more detailed information about these. Lastly, did some have their shutter speed locked in one (flash sync) position by Leica and are their any internal differences between them and non-post versions of the same models? I ask because I may have just bought a very late version (potentially as a spares donor) and am now wondering whether it might be worth recommissioning rather than using for spares? I'll post pix when it arrives idc.

Well, to reinvigorate my query(;)) the camera body has now arrived. It needs repairing as the shutter is very dead! However, interestingly, it has the red Leitz Logo on the front as per the M4-2/M4-P, two flash sockets as per the M4-2 but an M3 type black paint wind on lever (with 2 screw holes near the shutter release). I have found a similar body at Leitz: MD-2 black Post Price Guide: estimate a camera value although mine has no lens. Serial number appears to fall into the batch of MD-2s built between the last M4-2 and first M4-P. I'll ship it off to Malcolm Taylor to see what he comes up with in terms of its build components, but will try to post a few pix first.
