tobey bilek Posted August 9, 2013 Share #1 Posted August 9, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) These seem like a great idea to check for dust. I have been using a set of jewelers loupes and a keychain light from micro tools , however it has two problems. It would not be impossible to drop the loupe and damage the sensor. Also focus is achieved by raising an lovering it. Second is the light can be shown in from one side only so inspection is a two step procedure one side at a time. There are a few loupes on the market with built in 360 degree built lights. Do any of these have a focus mechanism? They seem to be made for a DSLR register distance so a Leica will be waving it in the air. Also does the Visible Dust vacuum work decently or is a gimmick product ? Advertisement Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Hi tobey bilek, Take a look here lighted sensor loupes. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted August 9, 2013 Share #2 Posted August 9, 2013 I have a Visible Dust illuminated loupe and it works well. Not sure what you mean about 'waving it around'. Put the camera on a flat surface and look at the sensor through the loupe. No waving involved.
pico Posted August 9, 2013 Share #3 Posted August 9, 2013 There is no loupe on this one, but it is an interesting approach. Then there is the Arctic Butterfly that Steve mentioned.
pop Posted August 10, 2013 Share #4 Posted August 10, 2013 I use a binocular loupe (3x) which clips onto my glasses for magnification and a head mounted LED lamp for illumination. The loupe happens to be by Eschenbach, the lamp by Varta. This is what I look like while cleaning my sensors. Serious business, indeed. As you can see, I simply frighten the dust away. tobey bilek Posted August 10, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted August 10, 2013 waving it in the air is attempting to hold focus without a nice solid resting place on the camera .
Jeff S Posted August 10, 2013 Share #6 Posted August 10, 2013 I have a Visible Dust illuminated loupe and it works well. Ditto. Jeff
CalArts 99 Posted August 10, 2013 Share #7 Posted August 10, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) No focusing, but this one works perfectly and is the same one that is sold by Copper Hill with their sensor cleaning kit. Amazon.com: Carson® 5x MiniBrite LED Lighted Slide-Out Aspheric Magnifier with Protective Sleeve (PO-55): Sports & Outdoors It works really well. imho, everything that Visible Dust makes is way over priced. There's nothing special or magical about cleaning a sensor and all they have really done is re-invent the wheel and marketed it with a big price tag.
