Advertisement Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Hi Rick, Take a look here NY Times Article About Leica Ms. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guido Posted August 14, 2013 Share #102 Posted August 14, 2013 One factor which may have led some folks to take Steve Huff's output for face value might have been Seal's official ambassadorship for Leica in the M9/S2 days combined with Steve's close affiliation with Seal (who contributed articles and a lot of comments on Steve's site, and employed Steve as a concert photographer on his tour). This may have suggested to some that Steve was more "well-informed", possibly closer to the inner circle of Leica management, and thus more objective and knowledgable than the average no-name gear blogger. Guido Posted August 14, 2013 Share #104 Posted August 14, 2013 More biased you mean ? Yes; "well-informed" = "having seen it with own eyes that Leica Glow is indeed being built into the products, as opposed to others who only speculate about it without access to first-hand knowledge." True. Although I like Steves reviews I don't buy a product based on them. They are too gung ho. Sean Reid is the best resource IMHO (he is also quite close to Leica but technical and laconic, you can always read between the lines to see what he really thinks) but there are a few others as well. Guido Posted August 15, 2013 Share #109 Posted August 15, 2013 From the M240 facebook group on Aug. 3rd. I used to think that Ken Rockwell was the gearhead while Huff's show was "passion for photography", but now I realize that it might actually be the other way round

Ecaton Posted August 15, 2013 Share #111 Posted August 15, 2013 From the M240 facebook group on Aug. 3rd. The guy sold his "first" MM to buy his "first M240" to then sell the first M240 to buy the second MM, I remember the long blog and debate over the decision to go for the M240 or MM or something like that. That second MM somehow disappeared a couple of weeks ago and a new M240 showed up to be sold on Aug.3rd again. Now compare these actions with Huff`s words on his blog and then everyone shall have their own conclusions as far as credibility is concerned. Yes, and the 2nd M240 showed up because a "blog reader" gave up his spot in line so Huff could get one back, which he then sold later (again) for who knows how much. Leica gear clearly seems to bring out the best, and worst, in people
Jeffry Abt Posted August 15, 2013 Share #115 Posted August 15, 2013 I am amazed! Some of you are so bitter and angry. What is the outcome you wish? That the world hates as you hate? That Mr Huff ends up destitute, homeless and in the gutter? Just ignore him if you don't like him! Why not just hunt him down with bloodhounds....good grief! That Mr Huff ends up destitute, homeless and in the gutter? Just ignore him if you don't like him! Why not just hunt him down with bloodhounds....good grief! Where you see hate, bitterness and anger, I see critical and reasonable questions and evidence being discussed regarding the business ethics, disclosure standards, relevance, and vested interests of particular popular public blogs and journalists. Is there anything wrong with that?
John Ricard Posted August 16, 2013 Share #117 Posted August 16, 2013 ?..Steve's close affiliation with Seal (who contributed articles and a lot of comments on Steveh's site, and employed Steve as a concert photographer on his tour) Seal also gave away an M9 on Steve"site in a contest that had no entry fee. But let's not talk about any thing good regarding Steve/Seal, let's just focus on the negative. Jeez.
StephenPatterson Posted August 16, 2013 Share #118 Posted August 16, 2013 Seal also gave away an M9 on Steve"site in a contest that had no entry fee. But let's not talk about any thing good regarding Steve/Seal, let's just focus on the negative. Jeez. I don't think that anyone here is berating Seal for giving away one of his M9s, but we are questioning some of the practices at stevehuffphoto.com As you said the contest had "no entry fee", just as facebook and google have no fee. Charging a fee is not the business model at this blog, increasing viewers and appealing to advertisers with a target demographic is. You are being sold a product at stevehuffphoto.com and there is nothing wrong with discussing the way in which that is being done. Yes, the product comes wrapped with many interesting articles, the majority of which are not written by Mr. Huff. However there are many editorials and those are what we are discussing here. Ecaton Posted August 16, 2013 Share #119 Posted August 16, 2013 On April 25, 13, Mr Huff wrote: "I am happy with my choice 100% and in 9-12 months I will buy another 240. For now, the MM goes with me everywhere The M 240 sold within minutes and I had 10-15 wanting it with just a brief mention of it being for sale." Now that MM was gone within weeks and another M240 appeared, the one which was sold recently. I was a visitor on his blog every now and then, and think his flipping of 2 MMs and 2 M240 in a few short months are in strong contrast with what he wants his followers to believe. Some readers of his blog might want to know that his agenda might not be all too transparent.
