albertknappmd Posted April 9, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted April 9, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I started putting in file in LR last week and am delighted with the program.. Smooth, efficient and very well thought out... My only complaint or concern regards the following metadata issue. The DMR ID and lens focal length are accurately transmitted to the metadata profile on the right side of LR. But when you look at the search metadata on the left side, you can successfully search for the different DMR IDs but the lens search always comes up as "unidentified lens"... Any ideas as to how to fix this glitch? Yes, the lenses all have 3 cam and obviously are registering focal length-wise in the metadata as seen on the right side...
Advertisement Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Hi albertknappmd, Take a look here DMR and Lightroom. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bono0272 Posted April 9, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted April 9, 2007 From my experience the DMR can only register the focal lengths of the ROM lenses, but not the 3-CAM lenses. Obviously the 3-CAM lenses have no way to transmit the lens focal length to the DMR but the ROM lenses. Â So if you are using 3-CAM then sorry you will find either '0.00 mm' or 'unidentified lens' in the focal length section of the EXIF from the DMR. albertknappmd Posted April 9, 2007 Author Share #3 Â Posted April 9, 2007 My mistake... I have only ROM lens and not 3 cam ! That is why the metadata registers on the right side (the initial metadata) but why doesn't the data register on the left side under keywords. xrogers Posted April 9, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted April 9, 2007 I don't know if this is the problem (I'm not home and can't check), but on the M8 EXIF information includes "focal length" and "maximum aperture", but not "lens". Perhaps the DMR works the same way. In any case, LR by default uses "lens" rather than the other two fields. Â Maybe there's a way to change what EXIF fields LR uses and displays? Â Until later, Â Clyde Rogers
robsteve Posted April 9, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted April 9, 2007 You have it correct, the DMR and M8 don't seem to use the lens field of the Exif. In particular, the DMR will show then lens on the info screen of the DMR back, but it never shows up anywhere on third party programs. Leica must be storing this lens info for the DMR ROM lenses in the makers or proprietary portion of the DNG. It would be nice if they wrote it to the LENS field of the exif info. andybarton Posted April 9, 2007 Share #6  Posted April 9, 2007 Rob  Perhaps they'll switch this on in the next firmware update.  Oh, hang on ...
robsteve Posted April 9, 2007 Share #7  Posted April 9, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Rob Perhaps they'll switch this on in the next firmware update.  Oh, hang on ...  If they didn't get it right on the M8, I doubt if they will get it on the DMR. I think they misunderstand what we want or can't understand why we want it.
albertknappmd Posted April 9, 2007 Author Share #8 Â Posted April 9, 2007 this seems to be my conclusio as well. Hopefully an upgrade will tease out the info from the DMR.
andybarton Posted April 9, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted April 9, 2007 The DMR is clearly an "as is" solution.
albertknappmd Posted April 9, 2007 Author Share #10 Â Posted April 9, 2007 Maybe this is the real reason the much anticipated V1.3 software upgrade is so delayed! ;)
bono0272 Posted April 10, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted April 10, 2007 I believe most of the DMR users give up the hope on the new firmware update.

I really wish a newer DMR firmware can come out, with real improvements base on the customers' expectations (such as those discussions in this forum). Â Â yes see the same. Using the Apo Elmarit 70-180 do not see the correct information transmitted to the LR. This has definitely to do with Firmware and hopefully we will any day in the future get an upgrade.
