ananda Posted July 29, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 29, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) whether there is any new software that works to determine no of actuations on the M. I had this software for the M9 but tossed it a couple months ago. One merely had to drag a DNG file into the desktop icon and it would give all the details. Anyone know of something similar for the M???

thighslapper Posted July 29, 2013 Share #2 Posted July 29, 2013 No. The unique image ID is a semi-random number generated by an algorithm that only Leica is aware of. The usual exif decoding method does not work
pico Posted July 29, 2013 Share #3 Posted July 29, 2013 No. The unique image ID is a semi-random number generated by an algorithm that only Leica is aware of. The usual exif decoding method does not work It is some kind of rolling, Enigma or more likely a half-assed attempt to use John F. Byrne's Chaocipher or something so simple that it escapes me. In any event it is a shame on Leica to hide activations. WTF were they thinking?
LocalHero1953 Posted July 30, 2013 Share #4 Posted July 30, 2013 Ananda - what software did you use for the M9?
zlatkob Posted July 30, 2013 Share #5 Posted July 30, 2013 I recall using m9info.app for the M9.
Mike51 Posted July 30, 2013 Share #6 Posted July 30, 2013 ananda, I think you need M9Info Version 0.61. Click on www.soens.de and go to 'software' and you will see 'more infos' for the M9Info - which then takes you to the software download. Mike. sanyasi Posted July 30, 2013 Share #7 Posted July 30, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is not an issue I care about, but I have to say, knowing the number of actuations is of use to both potential sellers and buyers. The information adds creditability to pricing. I certainly have seen lots of used equipment listing the number of actuations. So what is gained by hiding the data? sblutter Posted August 1, 2013 Share #8 Posted August 1, 2013 Software works well, as does still shooting as selectively as I did with film. Old habits... Much lower count than I would have guessed. Thanks people!
ananda Posted August 1, 2013 Author Share #9 Posted August 1, 2013 I used m9info, for the writer who asked above.

So what is gained by hiding the data? ..... protection from people like me ..... I bought an M9 from a major dealer which was a hardly used ex demo which had been factory refurbished..... 15% off at a time when they were almost unobtainable... There were a number of minor problems but when I spotted the shutter count was 6000+ I argued it was 'second-hand' and they were stretching the 'ex-demo, hardly used' description a bit far ... .... got a new one in exchange ...... bargain !
