AbbeyFoto Posted July 28, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 28, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Apologies if I am duplicating previous questions. I am interested in using filters on my new X-Vario. My dealer was unclear but suggested one of the B&W filters works ok. Any one using filters that do not get in way of zooming through 50mm? Ideally I'd be able to use Lee 75 kit but until they introduce a dedicated X-Vario adaptor I was thinking I could base the Lee on a UV filter that allows full zooming. One disappointment is the absence of a cable thread in shutter release. As far as I can see there is no potential for an electronic shutter release. Am I wrong? I appreciate I can use delayed release but a cable option is much more flexible.

papimuzo Posted July 29, 2013 Share #2 Posted July 29, 2013 I don't know what is a Lee kit, but I'm using a B&W filter (UV-Haze MRC 43mm. #23185), and zooming from 28 to 70 doesn't pose any problem. Good pictures.

If you use a 43mm UV filter and then add the Lee kit you will always have two filters on the lens - which means four more air to filter surfaces which the lens has to look through. One Leica dealer advocates doing this if you wish to use the Lee kit but it's a bit daft adding the extra UV filter. If you want to use the Lee kit it's probably better to source a used 43mm filter and remove the glass and then screw in the glassless mount before adding the Lee kit. Glass filter is secured to the filter mount by a circlip which is easily removed - the glass then pops out leaving the plain glassless mount. The two second delayed action is adequate and easy to activate. dunk

barjohn Posted August 5, 2013 Share #5 Posted August 5, 2013 Does anyone know the filter thread size? Nothing I have seems to work.

barjohn Posted August 10, 2013 Share #8 Posted August 10, 2013 Tried both a B+W 43 MRC and the harder to find B+W 43 MRC XS-Pro. The latter is super thin and works very nicely. The lens cap still snaps on but it barely protrudes whereas the standard multi coat sticks way out. Highly recommend the MRC Nano XS-PRO version. It's about $10 more but worth it.
