Advertisement Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Hi Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS, Take a look here M vs MM and Silver Effex. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pieterpronk Posted July 23, 2013 Share #22 Posted July 23, 2013 My basic post processing solution is Lightroom. Only in certain cases do I find that I need to open up Photoshop. I only use Silver Efex when working with files from my M8. With my MM I feel Silver Efex adds very little to what I can more reliably achieve through Lightroom. And somehow I feel that the MM files have a character which I love which is easily destroyed using Silver Efex. The same goes for the clarity slider in Lightroom. To put it in another way: My converted to b&w M8 files, however great their quality, seem to always remain converted to b&w files. Silver Efex seems to add some of this "converted" quality to it, but since they're "converted" anyway, I don't feel much is lost when processing in this way. My MM seem to be real "not converted" b&w files, as if they always meant to be b&w, which technically they are of course. Processing in silver efex (as well as the clarity slider potentially) seems to add some "converted" quality to the files, which is a shame considering it's the only camera that really can make "not converted" files. Let me add that the M8 seems to have the least of this "converted" quality to it's b&w files of all the digital color M camera's. The M240 looks quite "converted" when converted to b&w. Ah... the zen of camera's. It's like talking about which of our loves is better. None of it really matters as long as you love the one you're with. rcoles Posted August 6, 2013 Share #23 Posted August 6, 2013 HI There I'm lucky enough to have (and use) both an M and an MM, but if I was forced to have only one, then it would DEFINITELY be an M. All the best Thanks for a direct and well reasoned answer to the MM or M question. Bob
