Cabana -Ojai Valley

Interesting background re the film location for parts of 'Lost Horizon". The mountains in the background look inviting. Seems appropriate location to shoot the film. Back in 1937, it would have been a significant logistical challenge (for the director Frank Capra & the main actors i.e. Ronald Coleman and Jane Wyatt) to do the filming in Southwest China i.e. Yunnan Province or Zhongdian (Diqing).

Allen,

After a month there, you'd be in the poorhouse. :D Could have used a couple more days there myself to enjoy the artsy, hippy area. Had a beautiful room with a huge deck and view which I only saw to sleep. :( They worked us hard from dawn to dusk for two days and travelling from here to Santa Barbara via Phoenix and back is no "day at the beach". Flying to England is easier. BTW, only had time to shoot 50 frames and the light during the day was brutal in the extreme. The color you see here is very accurate though.

Paul,

Doubt they were too concerned with accuracy back in 1937. None of the audience had been to Tibet! Behind that ridgeline is CA 33, a famous twisty road from 500' to 4,000' up Wheeler Gorge. We drove it one day as I had before back in 2002 for the New Range Rover launch. We couldn't drive off-road in the desert though because of fires since then in the Los Padres National Forest. It's tinder dry outside the valleys. This place is one hour from Santa Barbara barring gridlock on CA 101.

Lovely shot William. I've traveled through that area some and the light and color is exactly as I remember. I like your choice of film for this shot, it really shines (excuse the pun) in the contrasty light out there.
