Leica CM shutter error, any idea what part actually breaks?

Hi,

My CM recently decided to join the shutter error gang. First it stuck to f22 no matter what aperture was selected, after a battery out boot the aperture control worked for two shots and then it went back to f22. After couple of battery out tests it finally got the EI shut 01 error message and now the aperture is stuck to 22 and also the shutter stopped working.

Since CM has been doomed to be unrepairable already when it was discontinued, there's not that much help available from Leica... I was wondering if anyone knows what part actually breaks killing the shutter and aperture control? Since the camera is now a lightly used, bloody expensive paper weight, I could as well let my retired radio engineer electrician wizard dad to have go with it. So, if anyone can point us in to the right direction, that would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Jouko

I think the problem on the Minilux was a ribbon cable breaking that was uneconomic to fix (not sure why?). In your case (different camera of course) it may be something as 'trivial' as the leaf shutter blades becoming stuck (this might also explain why your camera was having trouble changing aperture prior to it grinding to a halt). As I doubt it will fix itself, there's no reason why your dad shouldn't take it apart and have a look.

It's a real shame that Leica have effectively disowned these cameras. They were not cheap when originally sold and still fetch good money secondhand.
