miatadan Posted July 12, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 12, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just came across this review from Red Dot Forum )))) http://www.reddotforum.com/content.php/331-Leica-X-Vario-(Typ-107)-Review-Looking-Beyond-the-Specs this was interesting...quote : " The optics were designed by no other than Mr. Peter Karbe himself. Karbe is the head of optical design at Leica and has given the world such masterpieces as the 50mm Summilux ASPH, 50mm APO Summicron and 75mm APO Summicron for the M system. And, he’s hardly a stranger to zoom lens designs. Earlier in his career he pioneered cutting edge zoom optics work which resulted in such legendary lenses as the 28-90mm f/2.8-4.5 ASPH and the 35-70mm f/2.8 ASPH for the R system. wda Posted July 15, 2013 Share #2 Posted July 15, 2013 Dan, thank you for that link. I thought the report was well-balanced and fair with good relevant photography. It would have been useful had David Farkas commented on the physical handling of the camera. If he used the supplied hand-grip he didn't mention it. Also, there was no mention of use of the Leica hood. How necessary is it apart from providing physical protection of the front lens element? The inclusion of his discussions with Leica were particularly good and reflect an on-the-ball dealer with a live relationship with the Leica designers. That was a refreshing change.
