Lightroom question on Mac

I notice that when I put the SD card in and open Lightroom on my iMac it detects the card and opens the import preview; however, there are no preview images shown just the frame lines with grey. I am shooting in DNG only. Is this a known issue or am I doing something wrong? It has the little chck boxes to select or deselect the image but since I can't see a preview I can't tell whether to uncheck or not.

It's a Lightroom issue--but only because the Leica DNG files don't generate a preview. If you convert to Adobe DNG first, you'll get previews in Lightroom.

This isn't a problem for me; I just got Lightroom 1.0 for my MacBook, and it generates previews just fine. Have you tried going into

File>Auto Import>Auto Import Settings

and clicking the checkbox labelled "Render standard-sized previews"?

What do we lose by doing this? We gain a LOT of HDD space (the Adobe is half the size due to compression) but what do we lose, anything?
