Camera case options for X Vario

There are various camera case options for the X Vario e.g. 'Ever Ready' cases £120 to £180 and 'Camera Protector Cases' £90 to £100 in 8 colours and three different finishes

I'll probably buy a new or used leather case eventually but at the moment I'm 'watching the pennies' having just bought the lens hood.

However, pro-tem I discovered that the Leica Neopren case M code 14867 with 'regular size' front, price £50 new fits the X Vario quite well.

There's also the 14868 Neopren M case with the 'long nose' front; I have not tried it but it might be an option to use with the lens hood attached.

I managed to buy a secondhand Leica 14867 Neopren M case for £20 from a UK dealer and it does the job fine ... and it stretches (just) over the camera when the EVF is fitted.

It's not as smart as a leather case but it does the job, its a Leica case, and will prevent the camera getting scratched/damaged when it's not in use.

Th case is not designed for the X Vario - so fit it at your own risk - but on my camera it fits fine ... and 'the price was right'.

In this photo the case is closed over the EVF ... as fitted to the camera below

I'm still waiting for the lens hood - held up by the local Royal Mail postmen's strike.

Best wishes

Dunk, I have both sizes of Leica M neoprene cases. I have used them for M8 and M9 cameras. Remember that the soft cases are not water-proof, so be careful if out in threatening weather conditions.

Did you consider the half-case before opting for the classic Leica hand-grip? I have always gone for the latter with M and X bodies.

Wilson I have neoprene cases for my M cameras - all bought 'secondhand' - I have no intention of using them in wet weather - they offer protection in my crowded safe ... and in my camera bag. They're lightweight and take up little room when folded/stored. I bought the X Vario handgrip because I find the X1 grip to be a very ergonomic accessory - and the X Vario grip was 'available' when I ordered the camera ... and it will 'eventually' be fitted with the M finger loop when the loops are available. I could have bought the half case/protector case had it been available but I'm a tight-fisted 'so and so' and I know a secondhand example will be available before long (if I need one) at half the price.

The Leica Neopren M case (long nose version) also fits my Olympus E5 with Leica D Vario Elmarit 14-150mm lens. When the X Vario lens hood arrives I'll find out which of the neopren cases fits the camera with hood attached; the regular case should stretch to fit but if it doesn't the long nose case should fit especially if the EVF is fitted to the camera.

In my original post I should have mentioned the regular neopren case fits the X Vario with the handgrip attached to the camera; it's a slightly loose fit without the grip fitted ... but add the EVF and the neopren case fits better.

Best wishes
