Another positive recent M8 experience (plus a few snaps)

Keeping in the spirit of recent postings, I've managed to sort through a bunch of images from a trip last month across the USA and have posted a selection here. I used the M8, the 28 'cron and 50 ASPH.

Needless to say, the M8 performed admirably with only a couple of things causing irritation. First of these was the amount of chimping I ended up doing. I'm sure the M8 framelines are no less accurate than other M bodies, but the immediacy of digital led me to see just how inaccurate the frames really can be - especially in terms of parallax errors.

The other (smaller) irritation was the slow start-up time of the M8. I know that the camera will fire virtually as soon as the on/off lever is flicked but in all other respects (review playback, shots remaining indicator, etc.), the camera is pretty much dead for a couple of seconds. This sounds like a trivial nitpick but it did begin to get on my nerves after a few days of turning the camera on and off to take shots, check shots, etc.

One final oddity. On one occasion I neglected to turn the camera off before placing it in to my bag. When I retrieved it about thirty minutes later, the body was very warm (almost hot) to the touch. Has anybody else experienced this?

Others have had the warm camera and this is a sign that something might not be totally correct with your M8. I have left mine on, with the Auto Off feature disabled, and never had it get warm/hot.

Most here on this forum do use the Auto Off feature, I do also. Without that feature/option turned on the battery runs down real quick.

I do have the auto-off feature enabled. I seem to remember that there were a couple of blank frames consistent with me having accidently tripped the shutter a couple of times whilst in the bag (I was probably leaning on it whilst sitting on the train). The M8 has performed flawlessly since (a couple of thousand frames or so) so I doubt any serious damage has been done.
