ravinj Posted July 1, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 1, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I wanted to see if any S2 owners have experience with using a viewfinder magnifier. The only one I found via Google is this, that offers 2x magnification. Leica S Right Angle Finder Earlier, I had good success with using Zeiss Loupe on the M9 and was wondering if anyone here has a recommendation for something similar that will work on the S2: diglloyd blog - Focusing the Leica M9 with the Zeiss 3X loupe — Fantastic I will post this on a couple of other forums too... Thanks - R.
Advertisement Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Hi ravinj, Take a look here Leica S2 Viewfinder Magnifier. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
darylgo Posted July 1, 2013 Share #2 Posted July 1, 2013 Yesterday I was trying several magnifiers from past cameras and found the Nikon 2x to fit well into the viewfinder eyecup however it could scratch the glass. I am looking for a rubber O ring that would cushion the connection. The Nikon 2x is small and well made. An old Mamiya magnifier (I believe from their 645 or RB/RZ cameras) also worked once put in the flip up position. Neither would be attached, rather they are handheld in place, okay for tripod work. What 3x Zeiss loupe magnifier did you purchase, when I contacted Lloyd Chambers he mentioned his was not available in this country.
ravinj Posted July 2, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted July 2, 2013 I got the Zeiss 3x tripler, part number 522 012 from a local shop in Germany, one year back. I sold it a few months back as my M9 usage has become less and less. There is one on B&H, that looks similar to the one I had, but I can't be sure as there are quite a few of these that look almost the same: Zeiss 3x12 Mono T* Monocular 522012-0000-000 B&H Photo Video Thanks for the note on the Nikon 2X. I might try that as I don't mind hand holding, since the usage will be infrequent and on tripod. Hand holding the S2 with something like the Tele-Elmar S 180mm is not a viable proposition for me anyway.
darylgo Posted July 2, 2013 Share #4 Posted July 2, 2013 Thanks for the link on the Zeiss magnifier. Another alternative is the smallish Leica M magnifiers, they work. They are tiny and I find them almost too small, the Nikon and others are an easier size to use. It is an oversight that Leica doesn't provide for this. They have done a great service to medium format shooters with adapters for many lens systems, a good magnifier would complete the arrangement. As an aside the Nikon magnifier works on all the Leica M bodies, at 2x magnification with diopter adjustment the rangefinder patch is very large. Handheld usage for focus and removal for viewing.
