Hi everyone,

I am new to here and the to Leica world, as I am a converted Canon shooter.

I bought an M9 recently, when I took the display protector plastic off I noticed it had eaten away at the screen, making it dull and pitted.I will try and attach a picture

Is there any way I can fix this?

If I cant fix it I was thinking of maybe sending it off to be upgraded to M9-P specs, or would it be better to just exchange it for the new M? But I heard mixed thoughts about which camera is nicer the M9/M9P or the new M

Thanks,

The screen protector hasn't eaten away at your screen. This is unfortunately normal adhesive residue from the screen protector, which has fouled your screen. The same thing happened to me some months back, and the only way to remove the residue was some stiff and patient scrubbing using a cloth moistened with white spirit. Concentrate on a patch until that clears, then spread from there. This succeeded in clearing the screen totally.

In the end, I decided that there was no way I'd ever stick another protector on. I sent the camera to Solms for the sapphire screen upgrade.

If you don't immediately need the camera (as I did, when I used the white spirit), save yourself some trouble and get the sapphire screen.

Try Goo Gone adhesive remover. Toluene is the active ingredient if you can find that.

Spirit refereed to above is mineral spirit from any hardware store.

Actual scratches can be polished with toothpaste or a rough cloth or other fine abrasive.

Use small amounts on a cloth as you do not want to get any on the backside of the screen.

Screens can not be replaced as they are part of the back half of the camera.

HI everyone,

After trying just about everything (water, spectacle cleaning solution, olive oil, toothpaste, car polish) i finally got it of with my last resort ... white spirit.

I'm debating whether or not to have it updated to M9P spec, while I still can because the leica guy told me they are running out of sapphire glass, is it worth the 1000 euros and will it keep its value better?
