elansprint72 Posted April 6, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 6, 2007 Hey, this was in the Crinnan Canal last time I saw it, was working fine then. "It was a lovely day, and the Vital Spark, without a cargo, lay at the pier of Ormidale, her newly painted under-strakes reflected in the lock like a mirror, making a crimson blotch in a scene that was otherwise winter-brown." (From Para Handy has an eye to Business). I hope this state of affairs is temporary.
biglouis Posted April 6, 2007 Share #3 Posted April 6, 2007 At least your pictures bring a feeling of dignity to this old boat. Nice pictures with lots of crisp details. LouisB
dkCambridgeshire Posted April 6, 2007 Share #4 Posted April 6, 2007 Is it the actual boat used in the BBC series many years ago?? It deserves preservation. Interesting record picture. Dunk
ctb Posted April 6, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted April 6, 2007 Pete, it,s now resting in the Crinan Canal basin, along with the Vic 32, another puffer of the same class, Dunk, the VIC32 wore the name Vital Spark and was the puffer used in the BBC series featuring Gregor Fisher as Para Handy. Apparently lottery funding is being applied for to restore the Vital Spark, word has it that she is to be turned into a floating restaurant, Shame, The VIC32 is often moored alongside the Artic Penguin at Inveraray, I think she will make her way back down the Crinan canal and up Loch Fyne soon, now that the tourist season has come upon us, It would be good to get some pictures of the old puffer passing throught the locks.
