Since the Leica X Vario is using 18-46mm field of view 28-70mm on 1.5x sensor

28mm setting: F/3.5

35mm setting: F/4.5

50mm setting: F/5.1

70mm setting: F/6.4

F/6.4 70mm narrow end slow compared to most other zooms

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5 - f/5.6 IS

Nikon AF-S 18-55mm f/3.5 - f/5.6G VR

Sony SAL1855 DT 18-55mm f/3.5 -f/5.6

Pentax smc DA -18-55mm f/3.5 -f/5.6

the exception and on paper best spec zoom lens is the Fuji XF 18-55 f/2.8 - 4 OIS

So to me is the question how much slower is f/6.4 compared to f/5.6 in actual use?

What is build quality of lens that Leica is using in X Vario ? how good is glass used, how good is coating? mostly metal construction or cheap plastic like most cheap kit zooms?

The Fuji XF 18-55 f/2.8 - 4 OIS happens to be fastest zoom as well as best build quality so far ( almost all metal...

According to reviews ( Reid Reviews and Jono Slacks ), reason for slower glass is better optical performance.

So maybe we are being to critical and not going this new model a chance.

For me I am happy that the lens does not retract into body like the X2 and not needing Kiwi tube to reduce chance of dust on sensor.

One question though is it possible to put lens filter ( protector ) on X Vario

The lens has a 43mm filter thread ... but it is not mentioned in the specifications.
