AlanG Posted September 15, 2013 Share #61 Posted September 15, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) ...Interesting note is that the Nex FF will be about 20% larger than the Nex 7. This would make its dimensions very close to those of the M240 (if it is proportionately 20% larger). Although the M would still likely be 1/2lb heavier, the rumors indicate that the new lenses will be bulkier than M lenses and comparatively slow.... Comparing size, the Nex will have an integrated EVF and most likely a tilting LCD. When a camera body is thinner, the lens barrels will have to be longer to make up for that distance. (Assuming a given lens design.) Of course there are AF motors in them too. So it seems to me that Alpha lenses and an adapter would make for a more compact system than if similar lenses were also produced for a FF Nex. Possibly the thin body will allow for some new more compact lenses but there are trade-offs of course.
Advertisement Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Hi AlanG, Take a look here Sony NEX 7...no comparison. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
flyalf Posted September 18, 2013 Share #62 Posted September 18, 2013 I don't get this aversion to buttons and dials and detailed menus. You don't HAVE TO use them. My Nex 7 has been set up the same pretty much from the beginning -- aperture priority, just like my M9. Except now I can switch to shutter priority and have auto ISO. My thumb falls perfectly to control everything essential. Very innovative and elegant, actually. Is this all so complex that educated grown-ups are flustered by it? John The IQ of the 7 is great, and the dynamic range a bit better than M9. As to the handling the solution is innovative and given the small size quite good. But there is a but: The friction on the dials are so low that I always change settings by mistake while carrying camera, Worst is the changed by mistake ISO. Sure I can use the lock button, but to lock and unlock I have to press the button for most of the day. Poor design IMO. No disrespect intended, this is just my subjective view on the NEX-7 for what its worth.
bocaburger Posted September 26, 2013 Share #63 Posted September 26, 2013 Sony Alpha Rumors is reporting on a rumor of a hands on report of the soon to be announced (allegedly) Nex FF camera . Interesting note is that the Nex FF will be about 20% larger than the Nex 7. This would make its dimensions very close to those of the M240 (if it is proportionately 20% larger). Although the M would still likely be 1/2lb heavier, the rumors indicate that the new lenses will be bulkier than M lenses and comparatively slow. This really shouldn't be a surprise, but if you were hoping to replace your digital rangefinders with an RX1 ( or Nex7) sized interchangeable lens FF Nex, it appears that those hopes are fading. (SR5) First short NEX-FF system hands-on report (We need lenses)! | sonyalpharumors The biggest issue of concern to me regarding a FF Nex is how it will fare with Leica and other non-retrofocus wide angle lenses. If it's just a matter of corner color casts that's one thing, but if it's low IQ in the corners there really isn't any way to fix it adequately in post. As it is the Nex 7 presents more issues than the 6 due to it's larger pixel count, and it's still a 1.5 crop.
saibaiwei Posted September 27, 2013 Share #64 Posted September 27, 2013 Some prefer the Nex as a back up for the M. I prefer the X as backup to my M. To each his own really.
