WATE code read

I only know hearsay, and nothing about rear screen.

 

But I think several people have reported that the lens writes 16 and several have reported that it writes 18 to the EXIF data; no one has reported 21 if I'm not mistaken.

 

One report was that firmware will soon support all thre focal lengths, though it isn't clear how that might happen.

I coded old 9cm adapter as per instruction to be WATE code and I keep on getting the 21mm mark when used with VC 15mm...

I can't get anything wider than 21mm to show on the rear LCD, and EXIF says 21mm/max f stop 2.8.... Any suggestions?

The code for the WATE is 010000. The 21 2.8 ASPH is 011000. The black dot might be slightly off and/or too big so that the M8 reads is as two dots.

If you have the old Leitz adapter, the brass is not bright enough to read as white, so you need to code the five white dots, along with the one black.

 

The other problem is you may have the alignment off or the black dot is a bit too wide so the one black you have is being read by two sensors and it thinks it has 011000 instead of 010000. Try painting a bit of white paint to cover up a bit of the black until you get it reading properly. That is, if you have already tried filling in the white dots with white paint rather than leaving them as bare brass.

I was following your initial instruction to the "T"...

Used both paint colors, I think it's the issue of alignment. Now, to make it clear: what reading you have on your rear LCD and what info. is in EXIF (focal lenght and max. f stop)?

I realize that having paint into slight wells is a better method, but is it possible to apply a very thin coat of a bright white paint that would cover the entire area on the older 9cm mount ring where the sensor would read, and then just add a single black dot? I have been trying this with CD label material, but the fit is so tight that the label material shifts when finally mounted. My think was to paint the entire brass area white and then add the dot or bar for the WATE coding. Think this will work?

I am pretty sure the paint would just wear off and foul up the lens mount.

sounds like time to get out the old Dremel and make little wells - but the alignment better be good!

If you mess up you can always make it just a slot and paint the white and black stripes into that slot.

 

Stevens's problem is the WATE code was not in the firmware until 1.92. Prior to 1.92 a lot of the codes in the firmware were wrong, such as the 35mm Summicron showing up as a 35mm f1.4 lens.

Very diplomatic answer Guy, I love it, dont get to deep in the sticky soil maybe you stuck then... have all of you a nice Eastern Weekend and a lot of shoothing.

 

An update on my M8, it is underway back to me, with 2 lenses Apo 90/2.0 and Noc coded, I received it on Monday April 9.
