10x8 takes lots of work. I've spent six hours (possibly all wasted) on this so far, and Flickr won't upload it.

So here it is from another site. Chamonix 10x8, Nikkor-M 300mm/f9, Ilford Hp5+ @640, Diafine in BTZS tubes, Epson V850 scan:

Your best portrait of your lovely wife, IMO. The glow on the left side of her face suggests a burning fireplace right beside her.

care to share what results you are getting, what software you are using and what initial settings you are using (via s screen shot).  That will help diagnose.  Otherwise, not sure you will get much targeted helped.

Your right, I was tired so had to go to bed. Here are some snippites

Software Silverfast

I'm sorry Neil, but I can't see too much out of line with your settings, but I have to say I am struggling a bit with the colour as well. B&W is so simple comparatively.

As an example, and old slide, looks stunning on the light table. Tried it in SilverFast, got horrible casts on the faces, and looked very washed out when I lightened the faces.  Tried just now in Vuescan, as sometimes if I can't get one program to play ball, I can get the other to.

Not much better. Like I said, looks wonderful on the light table with the loupe, not so good in the scan. Hopefully someone else who is more adept at colour scanning will help.

Okay, maybe panic is over.....maybe :)

Fishing village in Hoi An

Portra 400

Initial thinking is f%$% it ........shoot B&W and be done with it. I will have a better idea if what I just said actually happens after I have finished scanning the next 10 rolls

There are a lot of nice colors in this that really represent what it looked like on that morning, some of the other scans are way off though

There are wee box's in that silverfish software that have video tueital instructions that I didn't know about, so after watching a few of those it kind of put me on the right track. I guess after shooting digital color for the last 6 years using top of the line equipment that automatically fixes everything, it was a kind of shock when I first saw what was coming out of the scanner.

Lightroom has a bunch of sliders and presets that can help get the picture looking in the ball park, I just don't know if my patience will handle it.....we will see.

The other thing I noticed is that the color negs don't like grubby fingers on them. Ive had to rewash a few already

Glad it's on the up and up Neil, any pointers of what fixed it, apart from the tutorials, something I usually can't be bothered with. Maybe I need to watch a few.

My first job was in a new colour processing lab, a while back I might add, and the first thing my new boss said to me was, "Cleanliness is next to Godliness". Always remembered that.

I corrected your two photos the first is a sunset isn't ? just adjusting the temperature on LightRoom

+ for the first  there is also a white balance problem
the second the purple dominant is due to a saturation

Gary.

Basically I hit the workflow pilot, and followed that.in the negFix box I had that still set at TMAX 400 and the other thing that was not checked and that was the CCR tick box .

Right now I am just back to batch scanning 3 at a time and I will let you know what I do with them once I get into lightroom.

Thanks henry, I'm just not used to having to adjust to much in lightroom or PS as its normally done somewhat automatically.

Neil - I use Vuescan rather than Silverfast so unfortunately I cannot shed any light on your workflow issue.  But I will say that my vuescan workflow is super simple so you might consider giving that a try if you get to the end of your wits with SF.
