I shot a roll of Portra 400 with the Texas Leica today - the Fuji GW690III. Can't put the photos up here, of course, but the detail that camera's lens records is amazing. After that I went to the beach with the M7 and tried to finish off the Ektar in it. Still a few frames left for tomorrow and then I hope there might be something worth posting.

Chris a good idea for trying K.Portra .You will not be disappointed ! For color, pictures coming from Digital M9 are like Kodak Portra 400 in my opinion , and Erwin Puts is right when he compares the M9 versus M240. Preference for the M9 for vivid side.

Well, Henry, the laugh's on me. Perhaps there is such a thing as "chemo brain"! I took the M7 to finish off the Ektar and my Pentax 645n to use up some Pan F in it to a lovely nearby beach. Two problems happened - a young deer jumped into the road just in front of me and I had to brake very hard. It didn't hit him, but my Pentax flew off the passenger seat and I had some difficulty getting the lens cap off as it had been forced inside the filter ring. I don't think any real harm was done. When I got home I put both films into my changing bag with two different models of developing tank and loaded them onto the reels. I chuckled to myself about what a disaster it would be to get them mixed up - and then proceeded to develop the Ektar in TMax developer! As soon as I opened the tank to pour in the PhotoFlo I knew what I had done as it should have been a 35mm reel in there and not a 120. Oh well, at least I hadn't run the Pan F through the C-41 chemicals which were warming up as I dealt with the first film. So I've developed the Pan F now and both films are drying. The Ektar does have visible images on it, so when it is dry I will try to scan it and see how it works out. Maybe I will have accidentally discovered a wonderful new artistic medium!

fwiw, I found a bunch of Kodak Plus-X at a shop that was moving its location. The expiry date is 7-2012. I bought it all from them and tried out a roll. I exposed it at ISO 400 and developed it in Diafine which I find is great for scanning (makes a flatter negative and I'm personally not big on super high contrast images.) It seems fine despite the expiration date. I've always liked that long gray scale of Plus-X and its subtle mid tones....

Be sure to click the magnifier for the larger size to see the gray scale; the compression at the small size reduces the mid tone spread. And it's a shame that images here have to be reduced to such small sizes especially on a Leica website where quality is assumed to be paramount; the compression kills everything..... and it's also sad that not many people print photographs anymore. :(
