Thank you, Henry, you are very kind. Yes, they were all scanned with the X1. I mostly use it for medium format, as the K-M 5400 is much faster for 35mm, but that scanner has started putting a line across the scans - I must get some compressed air and see if I can blow whatever it is off the sensor. This is my week of the quiet life, as my neutrophils crash, so it's pretty much garden pictures only.

You have inspired me to do some colour with the M7, but I realised today that the only 35mm colour film in the freezer is Ektar 100; all my Portra and Fuji Pro is in 120. So I've sent off for some Kodak Gold (I'm living on the cheap as I can't work till about May) which I hope will do OK. I have a number of C-41 kits to use up so I should be ready for the fall colours which are gorgeous here.

Yesterday I left the house and drove around for some hours with the M7 and a Nikon F6, each with a 35mm lens and a roll of Ektar 100. I wanted to compare them so I did each shot on both cameras. (The Leica won, but the F6 still has a place for B&W portraits with the 85/1.4 lens.)

There are some beautiful places in Nova Scotia. All of these are with the M7, 35 Lux FLE, Ektar 100, Unicolor presskit, Hasselblad X1 scans:

Yes, we grow grapes here and make decent wine!

Ektar is pretty horrid if even slightly underexposed, as in the contre-jour shots. I had to torture them a little in LR to get rid of the strong blue cast.

Yes, Henry, I did the C-41 at home. I'm more comfortable with B&W, but since I'm avoiding people and their germs I am left with landscapes, so It's time I learnt some colour photography! You seem equally at home with both!

I corrected one of the pictures with the white balance and with your permission here is the picture. Your opinion ?

I had already played with WB and Hue to try to make it look the way it did as I stood on the beach. The sea really is that blue, but the problem is that all the shadows go blue and purple as well. I've had much better luck with Portra and with FujiPro400. I'll be curious to see how the Kodak Gold 400 turns out.

Chris,I knew but I would be sure ! :) Thanks for your reply .I know you've also thought

Yes the white balance does not solve everything ! sometimes we must respect the color seen on the day of the shooting. I agree with you !

This is what I also found on some of my photos.

At what temperature do you work?

Best

The Unicolor kit is developed at 102F (38.8C). I think this is pretty standard for all C41 chemicals. Since my WBC was 2.2 this morning I went for a walk this afternoon along the TransCanada Trail, which runs alongside my property. I took the M7 with Elmarit-M 24mm and another roll of Ektar 100. Firstly I went past my neighbour's house, The Lynwood (which where the 'fathers of Confederation' stayed the night before sailing to Charlottetown to sign the Confederation document that linked Canadian provinces into one country in 1867):

Then onto the trail, which is the roadbed of a closed railway:

Some silver birches along the way:

To Nelson's Park:

One more image to come....

Looking back along Waugh's River (I live on the right bank among the trees):

I think I'm getting the hang of scanning the Ektar. I had always believed that all adjustments should be made after the scan, and all the possible corrections in scanning software should be set to 'neutral'. But I'm finding it much easier to correct the odd colours of Ektar in the software that drives the X1. These photos have minimal tweaks to WB and Tint and seem better than my earlier efforts as far as colour goes.

Chris.
