I'm going to Cornwall where I used to live in 5 weeks for 9 days, do you think 25 rolls will be enough ? [emoji3]

Gs 25 rolls is a good number :) I used 9 rolls for 3 days Kodak Portra 160,400 and TX400

I'm glad to shoot more film than digital :)

Henry

Hi All,

I'm back home :) as promised somme pictures , but first some remarks

I took a lot of pictures in London in digital (M8, M9) and especially in

film (2 M7) .I have compared to see, since I came back , because I took

the same in duplicate with the same lens (lux 35 lux 50, 28 Cron asph,

Apo 90 Cron Asph) !

I can tell you that the film beats far the images of M8 and M9

at "depth, more consistency, rich colors, image color more "natural",

pure and soft lines (no smooth edges) , especially for portraits, and

yet the images M8 and 9 are already very good quality (but unfortunately

"flat", some are "image synthesis ", images usually require a correction

in LR).

I recognize the undeniable side "practice" of the digital, by immediate vision

of the image, but outside of that sore which these "dust",

"spots" or "crack-scratch" on sensor !

I who love the colors, it is "without appeal" and converting in b&w , if I want

(SE), there is still much margin. Generally photos with Kodak Portra , I have

not need correction in LR.

M8

M9

This is the film that is closest in "pink color"

M8 gives the color that is closest to the film

(same aperture diaphragm , same exposure time)

pictures taken at the same time

Your opinion ?

Thanks for posting Henry.

About the digital files, I have a feeling you need to desaturate a few color channels as the bus is a bit too flashy. ;)

Love your black and white photos and I love London as well!

Allen,I converted DNG directly to Jpeg for posting without correction for the test :)

I well retained this pink color when I did this test

Thanks for your advice

Can't completely agree with the way you compared the cameras this time Henry.

This because it's a fact dng out of the camera is always meant to be post processed.

There probably is so much more information in the file.

Also, choosing your film is like post processing.

A few times an analog shooter asked me what roll and developer I used for one of my photos and I answered 'Sandisk and Lightroom'. :)

Do have to admit it was b/w and not color.

Allen, I went through LR (standard setting) for three photos one Tiff and 2 DNG,then converted to Jpeg !

Anyway the color of M8 is closest to the original color of this decker bus, but not the M9 !

The sensor of the M9 is brand new (just been changed and adjusted by Leica)

I'll try to desaturate the M9 photo to see as you told me !

In any case , a sensor can give a slightly different color of the original color, it's mostly what I wanted to show :)

This is what I get by putting the cursor "saturation" to - 54 (LR), a lot of "desaturation" in my opinion !

it also takes away a little green color of the tree and clothing of walkers

Now the photo looks way better Henry. The thing with the dng file is that it's not meant to replicate precise colors but simply a file you can completely edit to your own taste.

Also, you will always have problems with colors like that including red.

Like you I'm a real fan of film, but I also try to learn and master Lightroom / Photoshop to get the best out of my digital files.

That last photo is absolutely beautiful!
