Certainly the retro look in this shot, the flare from the highlights most noticeable.

My daugther, 10 years old, asked me to buy her a film camera.

This is her first shot with her Canonet QL19 and Kodak Color 200.

Massimo , all my congratulations to your daughter .

Nice framing

Your daughter is intelligent  and appreciates what is beautiful

She is quite right,

It should be encouraged to continue in her choice

You have to learn also develop films herself

and the pleasure of developing itself is part of the training :)

at the same time she learned to take her  time  to photograph

to frame well as on this photo.

I think she can also do well with your M7 Massimo  :)

Good lesson for all of us !

Best

Henry

Ok I give up,  Reykjavík Iceland is a wonderland for this "art" tags everywhere so much so it is sometimes graffiti or advertising?

Eoin, Adam, Henry, thank you very much for the encouraging words.

One thing I have noticed with Portra (but it might apply also to other C41; I haven't checked) in 120 format is that it is more "malleable" in post-processing than in 35mm. It's a subtle difference but it's there. I think it might have to do with the fact that the negative is larger and contains considerably more "information" or detail. Interestingly I haven't seen the same with transparencies but it may be due to how such film works, having a narrower latitude. Or it might just be in my head (likely). Concerning colour I frequently spend a lot of time tweaking this and often return to an image to play around more to get the balance right between a natural-looking and a slightly, but not too, vibrant look.

I really like the colours you are getting from the Portra 160 in these street scenes, Philip. The painted walls come across as having some sort of subtle organic-ness (I have no idea what I mean by that).

both are very solid, Philip.  The first is one of your best in a long time, IMHO...

I agree with Adam

Great shots Philip and wonderful color

I agree with you, not very nice at all (though it is a good black and white from a technical perspective, I think). In fact, they could have included the prices and used the wall as a menu ;)

I realise you won't know the answer (unless you spoke to her) but the main figure looks to be somewhat distressed - just the heat/humidity?  Or maybe she forgot her glasses and is just squinting at the paper in her hand...

Guest Benqui

very funny, Marc.  And no offense taken.  What can I say, though - as a New Yorker who drives by this stuff all the time in amazement, this is something that I've wanted to do for some time as a small project of sorts.  And then a thought about how the velvia 50 might be an excellent match so I took it up as a way to get to know the film better.   These murals are only up for a few months at most, then they are either painted over or the space is given to someone else.  So encapsulating these in this fashion (large 6x9 velvia 50 negs) is something that I think could have some long term interest (in a book and/or as large prints).  So I will have to bore you to tears for the next couple of months, although I will of course mix things up every now and again, as I always try to do.  :)

Just finished printing a few and kept this torn piece of test shot. I know it's a bit soft (missed focus) but I like it. It's my wife pursuing her menu at lunch.
