...

I find that the 28mm lens is better than 35 mm for this kind of pictures and Street Photos and Adam is right. The 35 is just enough.

...

Henry,

Are you referring to the perspective impression, or to the image quality? If the latter, it may just be that the 35 mm Lux, which is the lens I think you refer to, is too much of a "race horse" for such scenes, being optimised specifically to shooting open at 1.4, whereas one would typically set the aperture a bit closer for such scenes...

M6 and XP2 again. This is actually a handheld test shot to see if the composition might work for a long exposure shot with a 10 stop ND filter sometime in the future.

The answer is yes and no: the composition works (for me) although I need to slightly reframe to the right. But those dots on the water are a mixture of ducks and small buoys for visiting yachts. The ducks come and go, but those buoys are there to stay.

So I'll have to find a different spot elsewhere.

Ric stunning picture very relaxing

Thanks

How Green Was My Valley.

The hamlet of Dessy viewed from home; summer time, morning light, a wafting cloud. Sorry not to have city pictures. I miss lines, angles, light . . . people.

Thanks, Henry.  These are examples of the supremeness of the 28mm summaron.  Film was portra 400 in all.

Everyone who uses a 28mm on film should have a summaron... :p   It is slow but a gem for those bright light situations...

Intersting. I only have the summicron 50 and I always thought me next lens would be a 28mm (rather than a 35). I find street photos challenging at times with a 50. Was always wondering about the summicron vs summaron...

Thank you for your useful reminder Christoph :)

When I spoke 28 and 35mm lenses , I thought in fact to this photo below.

I took the bridge below with the 35 mm + Ilford HP5 and now 28 + KodakTX

This is more impressive with 28mm than 35 and I think with a 21 that would be even

more impressive.

The banks of the Seine river are narrow at some places and in this picture I can not step back.

Overall as the weather is bad and as you have mentioned it's better to have a Summilux 35 mm

opening at 1.4  :)

If Summilux 28 is not so expensive, I will like to have one.

Here is this picture.

Hello,

I love this topic ! Congratulations on your pictures.

I am new on the forum (I am on a "discovery phase") and love using analog cameras and develop my black and white films. Even if I also use numeric, I am in a bad mood if i do not have at least 2 analog with me  ;)

In London Underground, with Screwmount camera If, and SuperAngulon 21 f4

The summicron is a wonderful lens - no doubt about that.  It is better technical lens that the summaron, and IMO also the elmarit asph.   Loads faster and full of rich contrast.

The summaron is cheap enough that the incremental cost of having it also is quite reasonable.  The summaron has its own unique fingerprint.  Wonderful vignetting wide open at 5.6 and very pleasing flare.  And at f8 and f11 it is sharp as a tack all around.   And the compact pancake size is simply awesome (but don't be fooled by the size b/c it is sold brass and quite weighty; it feels like a tiny part from a tank).

As nice as the summicron is, for film I felt that the elmarit pre-asph was plenty ok for me.  And the summaron as a companion is really is quite nice.  Both were had for the cost of a used summicron with a nice wad of cash to spare.

Decisions, decisions!!

About a week before the solstice, when the sun was essentially at its southern-most point and shooting northward up Manhattan as it set, illuminating the Empire State building like a jewel.  Retaining shadow detail in the nearby buildings was somewhat of a challenge.  As was getting all of the numerous people in the street to get out of my photo (save for the ballerina, which I allowed to stay  :) ) !!

Wonderful shot!!!!!! This week I can shoot. Text me tomorrow.

thanks, Steve.  I am going to the Freedom Tower observatory tomorrow for the sunset.  I bought an express ticket so I don't have to wait (as long).  Hoping to get there around 3ish if you want to join me....  Should be nice weather...
