.. however, I think the point is made that you can alter pretty much anything to see how it looks and then if you like the result, take your time and do a proper job...).

For me the point of photography is to mirror reality within the framework and restrictions of that medium.

What you have done, IMHO, defeats that purpose...

Kind regards

Well done Dirk. It's a nice photo throughout imho. I don't see any trouble with the skin tones. It's a lab scan, right? If so, it's one of the better lab scans I've seen because it doesn't suffer from the common crude "noise" reduction.

I've been to Santorini too and have fond memories of the place, including of the very nice light. Was this taken in Oia?

Thanks Bill for removing the lamp, I still need to practice with my photoshop skills. :)

@Philipus: Yes it is a lab scan from a local store here in Zürich. I'm really happy with the quality but my next project will be try to learn how to scan by myself. And yes, this was in Oia.

When I woke up this morning I remembered doing it and thought to myself that that was a terrible thing to do... alter someone else's photo. So I'm relieved you took it in the spirit it was intended.

To be honest, that was a terrible bit of Photoshopping... I don't do it very much nowadays (oddly, since buying my Leica, everything has got simpler and I have a much more purist approach), so when I opened Photoshop it had changed so much I could find the tools I normally use for removing stuff, so I was just sampling and painting over... Which is why the sea colour where the lamp used to be doesn't have the same tonal detail as it should.

Still, it shows it can be done... And that pretty much every photo you see in magazines or advertising hoardings have been photoshopped to hell and back... and very often so well done you would never know.

In the professional world, the camera nearly always lies..!

The construction of this Cistercian Abbey is remarkable.

Design of the pillar of each column is different.

Really great job of that time (XIth century)

Thoroughly impressed with pushing Fuji Xtra-200 to 400 and then to 1600 on the same roll!

I THOUGHT I had loaded Fuji 400 in my camera and after taking 4 or 5 shots I decided to set the ISO to 1600 to see if a 2 stop push would work with this film.

What I didn't realize was that what I had loaded was ISO 200 film so it ended up being that I shot the first 5 shots at 400 (1 stop push) and the last19 shots at 1600 (a 3 stop push) and as you can see, both shots are usable.

Very impressed.

First shot at 400, second shot at 1600.

My C-41 kit has now officially done 22 rolls and shows no sign of failing :)

Dirk, thanks for your reply.

This seems a good scanner that some compare to the Coolscan operating

at 5000 dpi optimum ,but announced to 10 000 dpi. DMax around 4
Here are some pictures in color and b&w

https://www.flickr.com/groups/reflectarps10m/

It reminds me of an open thread here with Pete , Ian, on LF a few years ago

about Epson scanners versus Coolscan and other brands.
