What a triptych of an exercise in colour. One more so than the other. The eye follows multiple paths of colour, hue, shade, bold in one instance subtle in the other ... Is it the NATURA effect?

I've been playing the Natura range, finding subtle notes that are very pastel at times. I can shoot nothingness and am always surprised with understated somethingness. It's a pity Fuji discontinued it, but there are other emulsions that deserve attention. ADOX gets its passport stamped at the border for the outrageous (toxic KA-BOOM grain that explodes into shards of green and red), very pointillist. I paint myself into a corner, then struggle to get out of it. Ha, loving the struggle.

Thank you so much Klaus and Rog. I applaud the designers of this serpentine path, who understood that the light from the setting summer sun would illuminate the wooden boards under the right conditions, lending it this lovely sinuous form to enhance that effect. And, as for the windsurfers, I remember waiting ages for one to pop up into that quadrant at an agreeable angle, as I thought the composition would be improved with a touch of colour there.

Your wait was justly rewarded! Classic "S" composition with a windsurfer exclamation point. I like the aha! of the understated Portra 400, too. It's black and white, isn't it? No, wait! It's color, yes, color. Definitely, blue/green windsurfer sail . . . and a yellow fellow winking at the margin.

I've decided that HP5+ in R09 isn't what I like, especially for beach scenes. Each to their own of course.

HP5+, R09. OM4 with 24mm and 28mm.

That second photo, especially, is asking a great deal of any medium, Gary, so i wouldn't be too down on the combo from that example - the first scene is lovely and I don't mind the grain at all. Are you diluting it 1:50? You could even try stand developing 1:100 which would really smooth out the tonality and grain.

Thanks Phil, might try that, but quite like the FP4+ in R09 instead. I do however have a bottle of DD-X, so might try that, just in case.

Your Ashburton pair, you were visiting?

Hi Gary, ah I see there's an Ashburton on the South Island. No, there's a suburb of Melbourne with the same name, and we lived there for a year. I used to really love the look of Agfapan 100 in Rodinal, so I'd expect the FP4+ / R09 combo will give a similar result. I use XTOL now, although I've still got a semi-bottle of Rodinal from years and years ago which still works!

Thanks a lot Klaus! It was not my camera, I used the F6 of a friend of mine, but I have to admit that the F6 is really perfect for portraits. Very fast and accurate AF and also really great lenses and light metering. Probably (or better for sure) I will not resist 🥰

Ah, I can relate to the temptation... I probably would give in to the lure of the F6, but am afraid of the wrath of my Canon stuff, particularly the C 1v. The F6 is probably the final Hi-End analogue SLR body we´ll see on the market, so it seems a  reasonable investment.

I agree that with stray cat that the photos are nice. Of course that's a nightmare of a contrast for any film....no matter if you use  Rodinal or what else. But let us see the FP4 as a comparison.

nice photo, Xicara. As usual, you show us the beauty of the mundane. Btw: does the tool influence the result? sure, we are fast to respond. But does the color of the telephone influence how we talk and what we say?  Do Leica shooters make different photos than Canon or Nikon guys ? And why is that so if it is so?

You are right Klaus, it is really a temptation and it makes the live of a photographer very easy!

Thank you very much Steve. I think that's a great idea, go for it!

I like the edit, Philip, but it plays with my mind. It’s like I know it’s not normal but I have to accept it - for the reason we know the camera never lies.

On a tangent, I might start using my camera upside down, then invert the result in post. If nothing else it will amuse any bystanders. 🤣

Well I like it Doug. As a European I'm always surprised to see so many pickup trucks etc in photos (and movies) from the North American continent. Some people use them here too but find that they are almost impossible to park haha.

This one has had me coming back several times Rog. That film has a wonderful palette, very filmic somehow.

Of all your photos from this place these are probably my favourites so far, in particular the first one where it looks as if the man is peering around the corner to spot us viewers, breaking the fourth wall style.

I agree with Phil. Good results methinks. Like the composition of the second one in particular.

This is intriguing and I've been wondering what it is. I obviously see what it is but this picture has me wondering what it is meant to show which I like a lot.

This is one of your very best Marc. If you can live without the AF but want the Nikkors consider an FM3. It's a wonderful camera.
