Doc Henry -- Late to your question about conversion of portra to BW. As you know, different BW films have different sensitivities to color. When you convert color to BW the next think is to shift the color curves to reflect, in your example, Tri-X. If, in your shot, you light the blues and greens you may begin to approach the BW picture. Generally speaking, however, BW is better from a BW film. Somewhere in this forum there was this discussion and Adan (our man in Colorado) explained it quite well. Well enough for me to be convinced.

Thanx a lot Adam for your kind words, I really appreciate it! You are right I also love the sea and special mood with the sun and the wind.

When I see your photos, I have to try the Cinestil!

best regards

Steve thank you for the explanation. Ah Adan our Colorado man , if it goes through here .... :)

I put the 3 photos reduced to be posted at once.

The difference is obvious, and for people who seek perfection it is better not to convert because

loss of definition and general rendering  (houses roof "boiled" when converted)

Any correction Tiff > Jpeg for post

Conclusion: leave picture in color if possible, no conversion :)

I feel sorta bad when I post; you all have images of such exotic locales and events. Most of my shooting is around my home and neighborhood.

In this case, it's lucky the cat backlit by the sun. I was shooting a roll to find out if keeping the lens cap on would solve my light leak problems temporarily. (It did)

I love the way film renders the sun back there....hot but not blown out. Nice transitions.

Leica M6

Kodak UltraMax 400 (the cheapest film there is at $1.99 a roll)
C-41 kit.

Blown up 170% using Alien skin blow up 3.
