wattsy Posted June 23, 2015 Share #5381 Posted June 23, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I found an old long 'expired' roll of Fuji Reala 100 at the back of the fridge earlier in the spring. I rather like the colours (more than Portra which I'm increasingly less keen on). Am I right in thinking this film is no longer available?
Advertisement Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Hi wattsy, Take a look here I like film...(open thread). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
philipus Posted June 23, 2015 Share #5382 Posted June 23, 2015 (edited) Delightful Ian, in particular the first one. What a nice find. And I think you're right that Reala is gone in both 135 and 120. Edit: how do you scan the photos? I'm impressed by the results. Br Philip Edited June 23, 2015 by philipus

wattsy Posted June 23, 2015 Share #5384 Posted June 23, 2015 Edit: how do you scan the photos? I'm impressed by the results. Philip, these are 4500 x 3000px lab scans done (I think) on a Fuji Frontier. Depending on the film grain, they can be very good but they are not a substitute for a good dedicated archival scan. I find them generally satisfactory for 'contact' purposes, web sharing and even getting 12x8-ish c-type (lambda) prints made. I do have a Minolta 5400 neg scanner, which is ok, but my intention going forward is to build up a sufficient number of negs that I will want to make archival scans of and rent time on one of the rental (pay by the hour) Imacon/Hasselblad scanners available in London. Incidentally, there are trade-in deals on the Hasselblad X1 at the moment that make the new price £7,500 (inc. VAT). Bearing in mind the cost of a new Leica Monochrom or M-P, an X1 looks good value at that price and something I may consider in the future.

philipus Posted June 23, 2015 Share #5387 Posted June 23, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Brilliant shot Marc. Here's me trying to find a loophole Unfortunately a bit poorly exposed where it matters and thus grainy. This is otherwise a very fine-grained film. Like Reala sadly gone. Hasselblad, erm, TTL 50/1.4 Asph Fuji Pro 160S I have a bit of a backlog (again) of rolls to scan so I'm re-discovering photos I'd forgotten I took. The more I look at your photos the more I am attempted to use a 28mm instead of 35 or 50. I never used the 28mm for street because I was afraid that 28mm do not look so good for street portraits but maybe I will give it a try. best regards Marc Edited June 24, 2015 by Benqui

I really use 28mm here out of necessity because i only carry one lens with me. So i have no choice and have to try to make the best of it! It clearly isnt as suitable as a 50mm or 75mm as a general matter. I tend to use my 50s and 75 on cloudy days because on those days i dont get to do the more fast paced shooting with my 28mm which i most enjoy I will show more of this type of stuff with this lens in the coming days and you can be the judge - you very well may decide that you should stick with your longer focal length! best, adam
