A miller Posted June 16, 2015 Share #5162 Posted June 16, 2015 (edited) my humble opinion digital - for me black and white - the mountain trails / paths and the village square shine more than in color - details which are important for me to determine the image the analog scene still a lot of fun......bye I don't disagree. I actually had the same thought, though slightly different. My thought was that with a distant landscape like this with a vast tonal range it is very hard to capture crisp detail and consistency of colors across the image with 35MM color film. Not a per se rule but just my GENERAL impression. I was thinking that a scene like this is actually better captured with MF or large format film. I wasn't thinking digital.... Doc Henry Posted June 16, 2015 Author Share #5168 Posted June 16, 2015 (edited) What filter was on your 35 LA lens when you took this photo? Cheers, David David, I do not have filter on all the cameras I have. The photo is "nature", just a neutral UV filter to protect the front lens. it is the combination Kodak TX400 + 35 and MP exposure that gives me this photo. Hoping that I can enlarge in 30x40 cms. I also have the possibility to rnlarge in color by my lab.center Best Henry I strongly prefer the way your 400TX maintains detail throughout this image, especially when compared to the B/W conversion of your original KP400 image in this post: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/205842-i-like-filmopen-thread/page-259?do=findComment&comment=2835971 in the sky and foreground. and thanks for your selection ! chrism Posted June 16, 2015 Share #5175 Posted June 16, 2015 Color for me. there isn't enough shadow detail in the foreground and in the highlights on the mountain peak in the B&W version. The color version compensates for the lack of tonal range. T The more I consider it, the more I realise that I am completely in favour of black and white for portraits, but I do find colour can add something to other subjects. When Henry presents us with one of his 'which do you prefer?' posts, I find the B&W completely acceptable, and then I see the colour and feel I had been missing something! This might be a good time to sneak in my first use of Portra 160, which seems to be a perfectly wonderful film: This last couple of weeks I have been experimenting with the Rondinax tank and C-41, and find it works very well - the chinese lanterns above were done in it. It's a little hard on an elderly wrist to twist a knob for ten minutes while the CD and blix do their work, so next film I'm going to get out my secret weapon - another Rondinax that has been converted to motor drive by my son: I have soldered a 'wall-wart' to the motor now and it should work as a poor-man's Jobo. We'll see. Chris

dave.gt Posted June 17, 2015 Share #5177 Posted June 17, 2015 Henry, Apologies. I am back and no more hospitals for awhile hopefully. But I am finding it hard to find time to keep up with this thread... LOL! So, I must post a few more images to get back on track. I will start to work on those soon. In the meantime I must order some fixer and process a few rolls. I hate falling behind. Thank you again for such an intriguing and helpful thread! I am learning a lot and hope to contribute a little at least.

dave.gt Posted June 17, 2015 Share #5180 Posted June 17, 2015 Magpie Mine has a colourful history, a great place to while away a few hours squeezing almost medium format quality out of 35mm film. Getting close with Rollei RPX25 in Pyro, until you do the same with roll film of course, then you're knocking on the door of 5x4". Leica MP Cosina Voigtlander 28mm color-skopar f3.5 Heliopan R25 Rollei RPX25 processed in Pyro. Steve, The Magpie Mine photo is stunning. I really would like to learn more about the film and processing. Thank you for the post!
