Hi Adam,

Had a brief look at your set of pics. An interesting model indeed! My preference goes to pic no. 3 as her head is better separated from the background. The"model-like" shots seem too artificial for me. And perhaps I would have moved in for a close-up.

As a side note: while I understand that a 28 with it's seemingly infinite depth of field is the preferred tool for spontaneous street photography, in cases like this, where quick reaction is not essential and a busy background may be disturbing, I would chose a lens setup with significant less depth of field.

Having said all this, I still really like the images, well done!

Best regards

Christoph

Many thanks, Christoph.  I really appreciate your feedback. I never carry more than one lens (except when I also take out my Linhof Technika Press, which I just got a Polaroid back for, which is very cool), so the 28mm was the only card in my deck.  And I literally was only able to spend about 2 minutes with his person.  So this was the challenge; a very sub-optimal focal length and no time to think enough about composition, directing and making the most use of the lens.  As soon as I left her, all sorts of images entered my mind as to what I should have had her do.  Not much I can do about that.  I do think that if I could take another crack I could make effective use of the 28mm; one just needs to think a little outside the box.  She had very long extremities, which could have played well into this.  All in all, it was a good learning experience and I seek to do more of this, as it really puts me on my toes and tests my wit.  The fact that I may have gotten one shot that holds together out of just 5 or 6 is mildly satisfying.

Thanks again for taking the time to convey your constructive feedback and all the best,

Adam

Nope, the color roll was just 24 frames so I loaded XP2 after this.

I'm asking because I have two Spotmatic Fs, one black and one chrome, and sometimes i carry both of them, one loaded with colour, the other in B&W...of course for the M7s it would be more expensive. :)

And they look fine Gary, I recall someone else doing this (XP2 in Rodinal), ChrisM, perhaps?

His results were great as well. Might have to try this myself.

Gary

Guilty as charged! The only time I put XP2 through C-41 is if I have to do a colour film at the same time. For those who haven't tried it yet:

Expose at ISO 200 if you want fine grain

Rodinal 1+100

About ten inversions at the start

Let it stand for 30 minutes

Then three inversions

Stand again for 30 minutes

Fix and wash as usual.

Last night I spent my third night in the lab to develop in 18x24 cm glossy paper Ilford
The pictures are beautiful.  Better than on the scans.
