This is a great photo.  Lots of interest and energy.   Welcome and hope to see more of your stuff here.

Very nice, Patrick.

Henry - For me there is no upside to developing my own color film.  Thankfully, we have many very good professional film labs in NYC and I can drop film off early in the morning on my way to work and get it delivered straight to my home on the same day for only an $8 charge.  I then spend my time and effort in the scanning.    It is the best workflow for me.  Horses for courses, Henry!

Sixteen and Adam develop film yourself so you have your film immediatly even on sunday

Adam when the lab developed you save on a CD or sometimes you print  or you only get

your negative and  you scan at home

Best

Henry

Thanks, Henry.  It is a great film.

Well done and at the right moment Adam and color is very nice.

I just bought 20 rolls of Portra 400 and gave to my young nephew some rolls

for his trip in Breme Germany , it's his new way of photography after working

with me in the lab to develop and print ... he said it's "magic" and glad to

know analog ...  when he saw black & white appears on the paper ....

Best

Henry

I personally prefer the b&w version.  The color version is a little too cool for my taste and the scanned file adds blues in the shadows, which you wouldn't get in a wet print or a lab print.  That possibly is throwing me off on the color version.  But it is a lovely image in any case!

Same picture (OOC)

Which do you prefer?

I don't think I've ever shot the 400 variety, but if it's anything like the 100 version it's a great film. A few examples below. I also buy it in bulk and load myself.

Anybody using Fomapan 400? I was thinking of trying a 100ft roll to bulk load as a cheaper alternative to HP5 and Trix. Just to test some old cameras.

Thanks. It looks good. I want to try the 400 to have more flexibility, of course. Kentmere would be an option as well, but Fomapan seems easier to find online in Italy/Europe.

True indeed Henry, Tri-X has lovely mid tones and contrast. With a good wet print this picture of yours would look lovely, much better than a scan! I have seen this again today when I printed “Sole Seoul sole” in my darkroom (using split grade), so beautiful the resulting print.

I love to print now , better than scan in addition the result is really better than inkjet printer

a great difference IMO

.

Brilliant shot. Were you using any sort of hood? While I frequently have trouble with flare on my copy of the lens, I find, in certain circumstances, it is a blessing. The problem is that I am absolutely no good a predicting or controlling it. This is a masterpiece. Perfect.

Best,

Wayne

Thanks Wayne! In this case I didn't use the hood. Too dangerous to loose somewhere in the rocks as I had climbed the summit right before this shot ... As far as I remember I used an orange filter (A36) which supported the brightness of the scenery and the white of sheeps.

Very nice Brendan... your new M7 seems make a good job

Best

Henry

Thank you Henry!  Yes, I'm quite happy with the M7, and am now trying to sell my M6 as the M7's 0.85x viewfinder is much better for my work.  I basically shot all of the Japan trip with the M7.  I also had my M3 as a backup, but only ended up shooting 3-4 rolls with it by the end of the trip.
