I liked Steve's NYC series as it gives me a kind of intimate view on this city which I never visited personally. I like these kind of personal moments...

So hello again from Munich, with a shot from a typical place, a bit personal and of course also surprising for me having happenend. (MP, Summicron 35 IV, Delta 3200)

This is one- contre jour- of a scene that met my eyes when I emerged from a walk in the woods. Blondie, the dog that periodically escapes from the chain my idiotic neighbor keeps her on, accompanied me that day. It was a great conclusion to a wonderful walk with a fine friend. I think it quite pastoral. Miniature horses taken with miniature camera. :)

Yes , Steve I agree

Steve I already posted I think but post again for you some examples as I said above

Case 1:

M9/50

attachicon.gifL1015577m9lux50testlf+++1000.jpg

M7

attachicon.gifImage2vnlampkp160lfht+++-950.jpg

-the approximate color : of red , blue, yellow, color of bamboo ...  in comparison with Kodak Portra

-the background is blurred in film , not in digital  (flat aspect)

Saturation of all colors with digital

All pictures are uncorrected of course

DNG and TIFF (Nikon Coolscan 5000) convert JPEG

Same lens , same moment , same place.

I really notice colors and keep in memory when I shoot

Also notice "sharpness" of sensor and "softness" of film

Best

Henry

Thank you Henry. I like these comparisons very much and give an idea of the differencies.

All credit to you, Henry!

All images shared on this fabulous thread are digitised in one way or another, whether a negative, slide or print. The traditional way would be to produce a wet print in the darkroom, or to project, but scanning must impart a characteristic of its own, the characteristic of the CCD for example. If the last statement is true, we should consider scanning as a hybrid process one step removed from purity, yes/no?

When it comes to colour, my attraction to the use of colour film is the uncertainty and the wierd effects from the likes of Adox Color Implosion (RIP), and possibly Ektar to a lesser degree, but more easily sourced. I'm not sure I want my colour images to appear exactly in line with my human vision, unless of course I'm trying to record as accurately and as faithful as possible. But for me art is more about interpretation, with the help of emulsion designers. The uncertainty factor is a definite pull for me.

.... and Ghent in color

Kodak Portra 160-Leica M7-35 Summicron Asph

Nikon Coolscan 5000

direct Tiff scan to Jpeg

despite digitalization by scanner , lines and edges are not hypernets as with the digital

One of the great difference between the two systems

You have in Color Efex (CE) an option to make "soft" one picture ... so they notice it exists

that's why CE designers create this option

Exactly Steve , in b&w , it's even more true : superiority of the film on the digital

when we compare 2 images digital versus film

with memory cards you depend on the change of OS and computers quickly obsolete

like digital cameras . I just purchase 2 news and expensive batteries for my 2 digital M ... when batteries

are no longer produced by factory and Leica , the camera will no longer work like the DMR R8/R9

It is true. And, possibly, it goes further. Suppose you do successfully preserve a digital file for all time. How do you control how the image is processed and reproduced in future? in my ignorance of the process, I consider that a new generation of OS may take the exact same information, even if perfectly preserved through electro-magnetic means, and turn out something different. Of course, as pointed out by Steve, the digital reproduction of a negative- through digital means- is subject to same, but at lease the negative can be processed through other means less subject to change.

So true!! Digital is like an eternal treadmill at the whim of manufacturers to increase sales. As I see it, digital cameras are now hitting peak, I suspect the smart phone will win. Basically they're the same, but one has a bigger lens.
