chrism Posted May 2, 2015 Share #4305 Posted May 2, 2015 From the sublime to the ridiculous today. This morning I spent a couple of hours getting one shot with a 10x8: Chamonix 10x8, Nikkor-M 450mm/f9, f64, 2 seconds, HC-110 Dil. B, Epson 4870 scan: Then this afternoon I went out with some 35mm Plus-X (only ~100 rolls left) and developed it in Donald Quall's monobath. Everyone says not to agitate, but nearly every negative had drag marks by the sprocket holes. I'll do it again tomorrow and agitate it. This overgrown lobster trap has just emerged from the snow: Chris
A miller Posted May 3, 2015 Share #4306 Posted May 3, 2015 I for one would have lowered my camera rather than stand up to those eyes. Scary... Can't remember if I asked you before, Adam, but which film do you use for colour work? I know NY has dramatic light, but the colours on your shots pop. Ric Thanks, Ric. Doc Henry Posted May 3, 2015 Author Share #4310 Posted May 3, 2015 Hi Chris, both pictures are pretty good for me or I misunderstood something What you blame for the second shot ? Nice nature morte Best Henry
chrism Posted May 3, 2015 Share #4311 Posted May 3, 2015 Henry, It was one of three frames in the whole roll where there weren't drag marks (light stripes extending across the film from each sprocket hole). I just developed another roll of Plus-X in the same monobath using a Rondinax tank, with continuous rotation. It looks perfect with no stripes. If you'll allow me one more post with a non-Leica camera, I will show an example from today's film when it is dry and scanned. Chris
Doc Henry Posted May 3, 2015 Author Share #4312 Posted May 3, 2015 (edited) Hi Chris, I understand nowWhat tank have you early , also Rondinax ? No problem for posting if it can help someone as practice Thanks Chris for your reply Best Henry Edited May 3, 2015 by Doc Henry
chrism Posted May 3, 2015 Share #4313 Posted May 3, 2015 (edited) The first time I used a Paterson tank, but the problem turns out to have been inadequate agitation. The Rondinax requires continuous rotation, as only the bottom half of the film is immersed in the solution. This is today's effort, Plus-X in Qualls' monobath: I'm delighted with the result! I have a roll of Plus-X in the M7 awaiting my next chance to go out for a walk. Chris PS what a shame this film is no longer made... The problem of continuous rotation (Rondinax) is the risk of starting gelatin with the silver grains. I simply do a rotation of 5 to 10 seconds in my tank Paterson. Even with this method, I still have grain losses What is the solution? (I ask all of you) same risk for the Ilford HP5 as TX400 Best Henry
