OK Marc and Adam - you win! Your beautiful pictures of New York have me seriously considering Ektar again, and I felt inclined to search the archives for an example from my rare use of it. I found this one, and will most likely track down a few rolls to use again:

Have to ask Wayne, it's been nagging at me. The "dag" on the top of the frame, it is in the scanning, or in the camera?

The compulsive obsessive in me normally post-processes this out, don't tell Henry of course, but I see it in most/every one of your Minox shots. Gives them that oldie look I must say.

Just wondering.

It's interesting how the Cinestill disrespects the reds and how Ektar grabs a hold of them and stays real to the other colors with a sense of strength).  And how the Cinestill renders a golden theme throughout.

Both sublime, IMHO. :)

I believe it part of the film gate. While I have disassembled the camera to the extent I could replace the shutters and springs, I have not gone into the lens. I assume the gate is framed/lined with some sort of fabric and the "dag" is a loose fiber. I have thought about cropping the film gate framing from the photos, but for some reason, I find its presence appealing. I could start cropping.......It would allow me to disguise the fact that I usually do not hold the camera perfectly level. :)

 

I have noticed some of my Minox cameras include a bit of a notch in the film gate. Similar to the notch  in Hasselblad frames, but not the same shape.

This is easy. I prefer the Ektar for this subject.

No, no, leave it there,it is conducive. More it was curiosity.

 

I don't believe it is near the lens, more near the film, or if in the scanner, near the film.

"disrespects the reds" - yes, this descriptive phrase nails it, Adam. Can't have that, not in an autumnal scene. Once again, not altogether surprisingly, Ektar wins (yet again!).

Thank you for this comparison Adam. The colors of cinestill are very interesting even if for this particular scene Ektar renders better autumn colors. I think cinestill 50 would be perfect for skin tones.
