Have you seen the magazine ISP International Street Photographer ? You should send some in

Hi Gary - Very kind of you to have this thought. This is going to sound harsh, but my impression of the ISP is that it is somewhat of a fraud in that they feature too many photographers over and over again and don't seem to be willing to open their circle to others. I do subscribe, though, and have submitted to them before and had one photo featured. But, with all due respect, I find that photographers such as Gabi Ben-Avraham from Israel are featured in nearly every issue; and their stuff aint profound to be taking the place of the voluminous brilliant stuff that is out there (and is no doubt being submitted for consideration). For example, the past edition had a large feature interview with Gabi Ben Avraham. Now Gabi has had tens of images featured in previous editions of the magazine. Some of his stuff is really interesting; but my simple point is why not give someone else a chance?? The cynic in me sees a lot of people scratching a lot of other peoples' backs.

I also believe that the style of "street photography" that the ISP features is very repetitive. It is a lot of dark and shadowy plays on color and those random instances of juxtapositions. Don't get me wrong, much of it is entertaining, and some of it is even brilliant. But I just think that the style of genres of "street photography" is way too narrow and repetitively features the same photographers.

In my view, the limited set of styles of photography that ISP choses to feature inappropriately defines "street photography" in a way that is much too narrow. You rarely see really interesting street portraits and candids documenting fashion and beauty - which are styles of photography that have made so many of the great street photographers of our time so famous.

As you can see, the ISP is somewhat of a hot button issue with me. I actually think that many street photography associations, groups and movements operate on much too narrow of a basis. I think this is short sighted and neglects to consider the value that an image might have 5 or 10 years down the road when our culture and fashion sense evolves materially.

Thanks, Henry.

Yes, some of the images have some cropping. But it is minor as otherwise there is a degradation in sharpness, which is unacceptable. And I generally always try to keep to either a 2x3 (the full frame ratio) or 4x5 (which makes natural 8x10 photo) aspect ratio.

Sounds brilliant. Wish I could be there to "steal" all the great moments. :)
