Need some help

I'm getting confused with the shutter speed setting on my lens. I need a shutter speed of 1/4 according to the Reminiscent chart but my lens doesn't have 1/4 it has 1,2,4,8, Blaa blaa blaa

What am I missing??

If you need  1/4 sec, with your aperture set as it is here at 1/8th sec. you're underexposing by 1 stop.

Twin towers last night......there is still a little distortion as I only have one lens and its not wide enough so I had to point the camera up a little to get the top of the towers in....I also had full raise on..........When I get my Color Tamron 240mm f6.8 lens I will go and shoot it again :)

Thanks Henry

I do my own B&W development and had a darkroom for a long time (pre Leica) ...usually FP4 plus. But often just use scans from my lab for colour. I don't change them.

I think a lot of partipants scan and post. Thanks for the reply ..this forum is one of my favourites.

All best..

Every published or displayed image that you have ever seen in your life has been retouched within the bounds or requirements of the technology that prevails when the image was/is being prepared for print or display.  Your own lab scans will have been adjusted according to the operator's preference or left to the mercy of the minilab's presets.  Your point that you 'don't touch them' is moot.

What I will add is a personal observation that some  make a basic mistake in attempting to post process scans in a similar way to how they treat their digital RAW files and it's disappointing when those digital editing skills are so poor or non existent that all of the beautiful tonal gradation and detail that should have been controlled at the the taking and film processing stage and retained in a scan has resulted in the scan being beaten to death by hamfisted post-scan 'editing'.

Two old sayings:

'You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear' and 'crap in, crap out' will always need some consideration before the shutter is released.

Sometimes it's difficult to choose. Must I take this picture with the red dress and with the background

of Notre Dame cathedral , despite the bad weather ? ... and not corrected after the image ?

Finally I decide anyway to photograph because I will never have this opportunity :)

I've never let bad weather stop me taking a photo, as you say, you only have that one chance.

On June 8 we had one of the most dramatic sunset I've ever seen.

In anticipation of something nice (but fully expecting to get what I mostly get, which is nothing), I made arrangements to hop over to Brooklyn to shoot it after work.

First choice was the Brooklyn Piers.  But the tide was high and the piers  were hardly visible.

So I scooted (with my new electric kick scooter, which I LOVE) over to my favorite spot and decided to camp out amongst the dozen or so digital photogs who were already there.

I set up the SWC, loaded the Ektar (also brought Tri-X but didn't end up using it), positioned the 3 stop medium ND grad as best as I could and pulled out my spot meter.  Luckily I had an unused kitchen trash bag in my camera bag and used it to sit on next to the rocks so my work clothes wouldn't get dirty. I sat there for about an hour and my bladder was about to explode.  But it didn't, and instead the sky did.

I have 5 photos to share illustrating the evolution of the sunset.  Would love feedback.

Here is the first

If I may Adam, I'm curious about the lower right corner, I know I have commented before on it's appeal but I wonder for this photograph if there is not something missing?

Just a thought

Canon F1 (old type), FD 28mm 2.8, Fuji Superia 200.

Thanks heavens the drop in value for old film gear occurred so fast with advent of digital; otherwise, I would probably not have this, my first, film SLR. It has been collecting dust for about 15 years now. Off it goes, to Mr. Ken Oikawa- I understand he is a trained Canon tech- for rejuvenation.

Good onya, Wayne. I have two F1 New's - My original one which I bought new, and has spent nearly its whole life with a FD 17mm attached, and my father's one, which has just been off for a CLA.

Canon F1 New w/ FD 17mm - Tri-X...
