Guest JMF Posted June 13, 2017 Share #34323 Posted June 13, 2017 Henry - Many thanks. I really appreciate your feedback! Great tones, Jean Marc. Love that Portra 800 doing double duty This is a fanatastic photograph. Now, as I type this in the "Reply" box, I am forced to view it in a panoramic view. The height is from the base of the waste can to the top of the passage through which the mother and child are passing. Even from that view it is fantastic. I really like the composition on this one Jean-Marc. Very nice indeed. br Philip Many thanks ! Portra 800 is one of my fave films . stray cat Posted June 13, 2017 Share #34328 Posted June 13, 2017 I need the collective wisdom here to help me with this one. I remember the circumstances of taking it, wandering about at dusk on the breakwater with a telephoto lens and shooting back towards the road leading into town, but when I saw the picture I could not for the life of me remember seeing that broad curved band of - whatever it is - across the center of the picture. I thought at first it must have been a light leak, or some processing error. Then I thought a weird cloud. I can't remember seeing one, but I do remember there being a huge storm the next day. My brother who is a PhD in meteorology couldn't work it out, either. I wish I could remember, but I can't. Any ideas? Weird mysterious thing, Apollo Bay 2012 Canon F1N, FDn 300mm f4, Kodak E100VS

Weird mysterious thing, Apollo Bay 2012 Canon F1N, FDn 300mm f4, Kodak E100VS It looks like lens flare to me. I've seen similar flare from telephoto lenses. Just a guess. In any case, it's very esthetic no matter what caused it. A happy accident Edited June 13, 2017 by edwardkaraa

wattsy Posted June 13, 2017 Share #34332 Posted June 13, 2017 The 28mm summaron seems to handle backlighting well and seems fairly even across the frame. I know my 28mm and 35mm summicron asph lenses would both produce an unpleasant veiling in a situation like this. Do you have any experience of comparing the 28mm summaron with the 28mm summicron asph? If you have, I'd be interested in your comments. I haven't compared them directly because I sold my 28 Summicron quite soon after acquiring the Summaron. However, part of my motivation for buying the latter (after having tested a copy) was that it seemed more resistant to flare than the two lenses you mention. For most of 2015-16 I was using a 35 Summicron ASPH almost exclusively and, whilst I like the lens very much, its ability to handle flare isn't one of strengths. The Summaron isn't impervious to flare by any means but it doesn't do the classic aspherical flare blobs (vivid elongated torus type shapes) that seems to be the hallmarks of the 28 and 35 Summicrons (and also the 24 Elmarit which I have owned in the past). Instead it tends towards a more gentle loss of contrast and occasionally a little green triangular blob, like in the example below. If you really push your luck, the Summaron will show a big shimmer of veiling flare that isn't particularly attractive.

Very nice contre-jour Ian I like much when all the details and specially color are still visible in the shadows specially small yellow flowers About 28 Summicron and 35 Summicon the 28 has much flare in comparison With the summaron 28 (the new one) you think Ian , you don't have flare Anyway contre-jour has always flare but It's nice IMO Best Henry Edited June 13, 2017 by Doc Henry
