Just outside Tisbury in Wiltshire. Portra 400 and 28 Summaron-M.

35264616635_5eb85a513c_b.jpg

The 28mm summaron seems to handle backlighting well and seems fairly even across the frame. I know my 28mm and 35mm summicron asph lenses would both produce an unpleasant veiling in a situation like this.

Do you have any experience of comparing the 28mm summaron with the 28mm summicron asph? If you have, I'd be interested in your comments.

Henry - the wheat field is glorious and the movement really gives it some life. As does the red of the poppies - this particular bunch has very deep reds - outstanding against the deep yellow of the wheat.

My one slight preference would be for less background, which is a bit higgledy-piggledy. Often the background adds to the scene, but sometimes it's just a bit distracting. Here it looks a bit "industrial" which, to me anyway, doesn't flow with the rustic beauty of the wheat and poppies. What do you think?

Phil , we are in the same idea. a bit industrial , yes you're right

I can crop a little the picture , but I don't like

That said , I took the background for the perspective effect of the wheat fields

Thank you for your advice

Best

Ian I agree with Steve

What beautiful contre-jour ? the green and details in the shadows are still visible.

Ha , the summaron 28 a great lens

If I have money I'll purchase the new one ?

Thank you for posting Ian

The second one is a 'mistake' but I like how it came out. Just wish someone had walked in the stairs as I took the photo.

The red of poppies is my reference of red because it's like the color of arterial blood

just when the blood leaves the heart in the aorta , and this after oxygenation in the lungs :D

Very nice color Gary

Is it Fuji color ?

What's RDP Gary ?

Thank you for posting

Henry

It's Fuji Provia Henry, a slide film.

I bought some more recently and I'm even thinking of using it for the Europe trip.

I just received my copy of Cape Light. What a fantastic book for someone who loves colour photography. Highly recommended.

Ah, yes Philip! A wonderful book. My wife and I have booked to stay two nights at Cape Cod precisely because of that book! That will be in just 12 days - can't wait! It'll have to be Portra 160 in a Leica, not the 8X10 and tungsten film that Joel Meyerowitz used though! :o

This is truly delightful, Doc - figure and ground in harmony. Not that you can't break the "rules" of course. But this, and the picture before it, are truly delightful.

Thank you Henry. Well I had aimed for a slightly sharper photo but at 1/4th of a second or something like that that was a bit much to wish for...

Great stuff, I'm very envious and I am very much looking forward to your take on Cape Cod, even without a Deardorff :)
