Wes I just look at batterie on MP and M7 like your M6 , I use the same for both camera.

Reference CR1/3N Varta : it's unique if my memory is good it's 3 Volts

Not wanting to interrupt the flow of excellent pictures for too long, just shortly, LR44 have just 1.5V, while SR44 have 1.55 V. Moreover, Silver oxide SR44 do not drop their voltage that fast over their life cycle. I remember some Olympus cameras only work with SR44.

Like Henry, I use DN 1/3, which are Lithium Manganese oxide, according to this source at 3.1 V (others say 3.0).

The main reason I use Lithium batteries is their long-term stability, they keep good for years and have the reputation for having a low leakage risk. They are more sensitive to lower temperatures, though.

I have the suspicion that most older cameras died due to battery leakage. Buying good batteries (and taking them out for storage) is an inexpensive insurance...

Very nice series from Vietnam! Thank you for posting them Henry!

Thank you Edward for your comment. :)

Yes , each country has his treasure. The problem is that sometimes these treasures

are replaced by the "economy of profit and money"  with degradation of the landscape

and the nature , as in this picture taken in the 1990s , now instead we have buildings

built with Chinese , Korean or American funds !

Yes I agree with Stefan. If you wish one camera works well , please put a quality batterie

and if possible recommanded by Leica .

My batterie still works since 8 months with some dozen rolls of film without changing !

Best

It's nice that you were able to document the beauty of this place before it was ruined by concrete and human greed, Henry. That's really invaluable.

Thanks Doc, I've just ordered a couple...... Will be interested to see if it resolves my meter problem

I used to have a problem intermittently on the MP (problem now permanently solved by swapping it for an M2!) where the meter would become very inaccurate. I went through a lot of batteries without making much difference before I realised what the problem was. There are gold-plated contacts on the back trap door that allow the film speed dial to connect to the meter circuits. Maybe they didn't use very pure gold, but they would fail to make proper contact, just as the similar pins that were supposed to read film speed on DX film canisters failed and were replaced with optical sensors. The solution was to periodically rub both the pointy pins and the flat contacts with which they mated with an eraser like the one on the end of a pencil (hold the camera upside down so any bits of rubber fall out!). This removed grease and or oxidation and everything worked again. Ideally, I would have remembered to do this just before a film got ruined by the meter failing to work properly. In retrospect I'm glad I went to the M2, as I suspect I understand a bit more about metering since I learned how to use a Sekonic L758, and it's nice to use the same meter for the Leica, the Rolleiflex and the Hasselblad.
