Henry, I am fond of the N74 but it is a little less tolerant of poor exposure and I usually shoot sunny sixteen it lets me down occasionaly or I let it down rather.

As to colour, it has been known and in fact my latest top up does contain some C41 emulsion, slower summer stock:

Cherry red  alpenglow on The Screes, Wasdale.

You can't guarantee it, but when it does happen, it's an impressive sight.  A bit of effort to get up the hill well away from other photographers down below who can't walk more than two metres from their cars is worthwhile, but you need to be in place in good time.  As the sun goes down,  the ridge behind you casts a shadow across The Screes and progressively obliterates the glow.  When that happens, it's time to swing your camera around to the left and point it towards the big hills around Wasdale Head, which will stay cherry red until the sun sinks lower and a shadow from Kirk Fell is cast across Great Gable.  Yewbarrow will also be in shadow by now and the effect is gone until conditions are right for another time.

Expect a few fruitless trips, but all will turn out well eventually if you're persistent.

Hasselblad XPan-2

45mm

Fuji Velvia 50

I remember when Galen Rowell would wax lyrical about "alpenglow", I wondered about it until I experienced it first hand. I think he would aprove of your latest photographs.

Here's something from left field. I recently received a box of cameras and photographic gear to sell from my cousin's husband's deceased estate. Amongst the gear were a bunch of really old 35mm film canisters and, inside some of the canisters, was rolled-up film. It was in pretty ordinary condition, so I washed it like I'd wash a just-developed film and hung it up for a few days to dry and to try and straighten out a bit. At this stage I have no idea what or who is in them, but here is a sample picture I just scanned:

p2258741989-5.jpg

The registration of the cars, which look fairly new, dates it to 1953 0r 1954, as by the look of them do the clothes. The film is Agfa L ISS which I find pretty interesting and exciting, because it is one of the films Robert Frank was using contemporaneously. Camera and lens and photographer unknown but it appears to be a picnic somewhere in Victoria, Australia.

Not a bad result for ill-treated film from 64 years ago!

Great ... I love this kind of time capsule. Fantastic ...

It's snowing quite a bit today, so I took the Pen F out for a bit, but not the Rolleiflex. I took my 48 pictures and scanned about half of them, and I was surprised to see the presentable ones were from the shots taken indoors. I may add some outdoors ones tomorrow. The XP2 holds up well in the little half-frame negatives, giving smoother results than I've had with other films.

Here another from Gnoll Park. Not the most interesting shot, but linked to a smugmug trial I just started. It looks as if I can get a proper jpg link to insert, we'll see.

On another note, the White balance has been corrected in ACR. Is it ok? I'm not a good judge of colour as you all know, so I usually go with the scanned jpg. This is just a test.

Let's see if this displays an image. Gary to thank for this idea.

Gary , just to submit you this remark  :)

I am in full period of street photos test, but I will try the 35mm (min focus at 0.3m) to see.

With a 50mm summicron (min focus at 0.50m) and at 3 meters we get this kind of street picture

below. I think it gives a nice effect :)

Do not ask me why he opens his mouth perhaps after a puff of electronic cigarette ?

In any case not beautiful to see :(

Kodak TX400-Leica R4s-50 Summicron

The Summicron 50 is really a good lens IMO for general rendering (contrast, definition,b&w tone...)

I prefer it to the M summilux 50 !

Regards

Henry

Nice Henry, and an interesting comment that you prefer it to the Summilux M.

It looks like he is snoring?

I finished the roll and left the camera a few days, self loaded cassette ORWO N74 Nikon cassette, come developer time I went to rewind and it was loose, I assumed I had already rewound and opened the back. No prizes are offered for replicating the look on my face as the film sat on right hand side basking in the daylight. Why do we shut the back so quickly, the damage well done ? Anyway some early frames were less affected and had some interesting effects. This frame is about a 50% crop to loose the worst.
