And one thought I had when I saw same subject, similar camera/lens, was what would the colour neg look like "converted".

Feel like trying that Henry?

Gary

Gary, here is the picture color converted in b&w.

Color film Kodak Portra 160 scan with RGB calibrated - no correction at all

(converted in Color Efex)  and the same in b&w kodak TX

More details in dark croup and belly of the horse

Therefore more definition in the shadows in TX

In the converted photo, the details disappear when enlarged, the black seems

more "clogged"  as when you convert the digital color into black and white.

Crops of the same pictures posted above

Kodak TX400

Both pictures are not corrected.

In the second picture clearer , we see the work of the bronze, undulations of the

skin of the horse, that we do not see on the first photo where everything is black.

In conclusion , Gary if you are a purist and love what is perfect

It is better to have a roll of b&w film in one camera and one roll of color in another camera

Keep your M6

I'd like to echo the thoughts of Xenia and others in welcoming you back, Henry, and expressing great sorrow for your loss. And couldn't agree more about those pictures of Xenia's - absolutely delightful, moody et très atmosphériques!

Edit: As are yours Henry (you posted while I was composing!).

Welcome back, Henry. A tough time for you and your family. My thoughts are with you.

Hi Henry - I am very sorry for your loss.  It is good to have you back, however.  I still have plenty of snow blizzard photos for you :)

Hello Henry,

Welcome back,

Best Regards,

Michael

Hi Henry

You don't know me, but I know your wonderful pictures and all your nice comments in this open thread. For the last three weeks I missed this very much! Thanks for coming back! Until now I'm a silent reader, already for quite a long time. 2015, after 15 years of digital photography I discovered film again, I love film photography with my M6 and from friday on with my new MP. I'm looking forward to post here some of my pictures in a nice atmosphere without destructive criticism like in other (german) threads.

Thank you Henry,

Very active and vibrant over here :)

Lovely thread.

Henry, it's good to have you back my friend we've all missed you and sincerely sympathise with your loss.

Keep posting. Your enthusiasm keeps us all going and motivated to try harder to make photos with film that will stand the test of time.

Best wishes

Christopher

Your colours, at 38º, are better than mine at the standard temperature. Mind you, the B&W photo is still the best for me.

Chris

Yes Chris after trying 30°C I return now to 38°C.

I think you're right for b&w ,  for some pictures like fog b&w is better than color

more dramatic impression.

Thanks for watching and for your comment

Best

Henry
