Ratzfatz Posted February 15, 2017 Share #28321 Posted February 15, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Still shooting with my Oly Trip35. This is HP5 souped in D76 straight. I used a cable release and measured the distance to the camera with a laser tape measure (and tried not to lean up or back while I shot the photo!) It's not deadly sharp but you get what you get. The second image is me with my buddy Pancho the wonder Pug. He didn't want to pose. Great!!! Only great .. I am sorry, I don't know what do you mean with "deadly sharp" ... I would think it is sharp enough! The first one is my favorite portrait. Best Gregor

ramarren Posted February 15, 2017 Share #28324 Posted February 15, 2017 The picture is an oxymoron: a soft depiction of sharp objects I like those imperfect shots as well. Rgds C. Thank you!
pico Posted February 15, 2017 Share #28325 Posted February 15, 2017 Yeah...it did come out grainy but I'll find out when I print. The highlights do seem that way but I think that the print will be better than the scan. It's hard to make any sort of conclusion from a scan. True! One virtue of optical (darkroom) printing that we cannot possibly get a 1:1 sharpness, however we get superior gradation. Good for you! .
mrckdavies Posted February 16, 2017 Share #28326 Posted February 16, 2017 (edited) Another short Neath Canal walk close to a place called Ynysygerwn. Perhaps these shots are an example of how not to take late winter afternoon landscapes. If I had been more diligent I would have taken a tripod instead of using a powerful flash to fill in the gloomy landscape against the light sky of a late Saturday afternoon. The film was Fuji Superior 400 X-tra. To say that it was difficult to produce pleasing results is an understatement and I ended up using Photoshop to reduce the brightness of foliage that was too close to my fill-in light source. Lesson learnt. Here are my results. I'll start at the furthest end of my short walk. This shot looking northwards up the canal. The last house on my walk alongside the canal, this time looking southwards. A Catkins trilogy. A stream entering the canal. A summer canal observation area, now abandoned Another property with a pipe crossing the canal to knockout walkers who are too tall and not concentrating on where they are going. And finally this branch coming out of the water I tried to highlight against the darkness of the opposite bank. Somehow I almost like this one. gbealnz Posted February 16, 2017 Share #28327 Posted February 16, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Obviously too late now, but agreed, a tripod might have made a considerable difference. A good "end of roll" experiment, take a flash shot, then take a tripod shot, compare? Gary

christoph_d Posted February 16, 2017 Share #28333 Posted February 16, 2017 (edited) POOOW!!! Nailed ya! M7, 28mm elmarit pre-asph, Fuji Pro 400H Adam, all of your snowstorm pictures have been very nice to look at. One should organize tourist tours in NY on snowstorm occasions. The inhabitants seem rather photogenic, with their pronounced facial expressions and their contorted appendices trying to hold on to their protective gear. By the way, I noticed your use of Kodak as well as Fuji film on that day. What's your take on the differences of these? Thx for showing the pics, Christoph Edited February 16, 2017 by christoph_d

I think you might be on to something with the "blizzard tourist tours" - i quite like the sound of that! As for the two films, i didntt notice any meaningful difference in rendition. However, the fuji pro 400h came quite a bit thinner than the portra 400, and was also much more curly. Fyi, I rated each film at 800 and pushed each one stop in development...
