I remember the colour shot Henry and actually prefer it to the black and white version.

The subtle tones looked wonderful.

Gary

For Gary I post again the same picture in color in comparison with  b&w :)

Color Kodak Portra 160-Leicaflex SL (1970)-50 Summicron (1970)

B&w Kodak TX400-Leica R4S (1986) -50 Summicron (1986)

I am a purist and I don't like to convert color in b&w. Certain parts

of the photo in black are not homogeneous when converted, more

visible when you crop ! you know the reason ?

It's better , if you can to have 2 cameras one b&w and one color.

Gary you remember you're full b&w before and you don't like too much color :D

Here the proof that color is useful just for the subtle red of foliage ! are you agree

with me ? ... and I can say , you are an expert !

When I read Gary's post yesterday I immediately thought "Hmm, I spent Saturday afternoon taking pictures of the same scene with (1) M240 + 50mm Summilux-M ASPH and (2) 1957 IIIg + 1951 5cm Summicron Collapsible.  I had not set off with the intention of making direct comparisons between digital and film, more a case of feeling I had been neglecting the digital pairing and that I was keen to finish the film.  Anyway, Gary's interesting post caused me to actually make the comparisons and having done so, start posting them here - and I apologise for somewhat jumping on the bandwagon so to speak.

So - today's offering - same equipment - same Saturday walk - one digital, one Acros 100.

Comments re their relative merits welcomed.

Keith, I like the top one much better. Here I think it's a more clear case that the top one is film than your other examples (at least to me).

Interesting photos Henry. I actually prefer the lines drawn by the b+w which present my eyes with a far less confusing picture - probably due to my eyes not being able to see subtle colours very well.

Just having lunch having had a perfect systems audit in work - the auditor has left early with no issues. I'm having a good afternoon. Hope you are too.

Kind regards

Christopher

You're brave putting a flash unit on a leica rangefinder [emoji6]. I thought that was frowned on in the Leica community. Great equipment though. I think we all secretly put a flash on our M's, but don't admit to it.

Kind regards

Montparnasse Tower (Feb 2017)

57 floors , 210 m taken with my Leicaflex SL (1970)

Exclusively offices. You have a very nice view of Paris in 360 ° ,

at the top of the tower. It is very nice in summer

Kodak TX400 (2017) - Summicron 50 (1970)

The definition and the black of this film are really superb !

A dynamic composition with great detail and tones (although personally I would remove the lamp).  From a different viewpoint, some consider the tower to be something of an eyesore!

Paris 1992, 35mm Ektar 100.

Chris,  I have 3 flash 1 Leica and 2 Metz but I use them in special condition

Generally  I don't use because it denatures a little color , like during a

wedding and disrupts the ceremony. Some priests do not like flash

when they preach. But in the case of Adam, he shoot sometimes

street photos with flash and I think it's a good idea

I was only joking. I have 3 metz too! There are some purists who point fingers at Eric Kim who uses them for street too. There are Leica users who like to boast of their fast lenses, so they don't have to use flash. I have a big hammerhead dual flash with bracket and SCA, the 40MZ-2 and for my new SLR the 54 MZ-3. I am not being critical at all - it was meant "tongue in cheek" as we say here in UK.

See this review of M3 at the end for a typical online comment re flash use - http://emanuelefaja.com/leicam3review/

It's a good review otherwise.

Best wishes

Two pictures film for Chris , without flash , but with the Summilux 35 Apsh

open at f:1.4 and without tripod.

We are 2 photographers for this wedding , one with 2 Canon 5DII and one

with 2 analog M cameras  (M7 for color and MP for b&w)

For the color and also b&w the family prefer all my photos in film and ask me

to print in Kodak glossy silver paper. :) and Ilford paper with my enlarger

Focomat 1C

Etienne and Audrey wedding (2015)

Etienne at left was a baby when I knew him

Color is still nice and not denatured

Not need Isos race like in digital camera. 400 Isos are enough for me

Lovely shots Henry. I took some photos of the wedding of my God-fathers daughter in the summer of 2015. They had tea on the lawn beside the church afterwards. It's a lovely informal shot of a Welsh bride. Only a Welsh bride could have tea straight after her wedding!

These were taken with the M6 TTL and CZ Sonnar 50/1.5 I think. It was the first summer I returned to film - 2015.

Yes, from the Eiffel Tower - & posted the photo here to show how the big, black finger known as the Montparnasse Tower can be something of a blot on the landscape!
