A miller Posted January 29, 2017 Share #27161 Posted January 29, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) very rich tones, Dirk. It does, though, look slightly underexposed to me - it would be nice to see a little of what's going on in the streets. I would have thought that you'd have some of the detail in the negative to extract... streets of Hanoi (Rolleiflex 3.5F and Rollei Superpan 200) Hanoi by Dirk Raffel, auf Flickr Thanks, Philip. I agree with you. If I recall correctly I panned a little b/c the man was moving. He face and body is quite sharp. Yes, it was with the SF-24D - low tech for sure and had Harold laughing Very funny, Adam, he must have been really surprised. Was this with the SF-24D? This photo is also a perfect example that engaging and interesting photographs need not be sharp. br Philip Really nice lines and composition in this one. Poznan, Poland Leica M2, CV 50/1.5 Nokton tri-x 400 Nice one, Suede. Great blacks. On a longish stopover at Doha, Qatar. The hotel room. The room.jpg Very interesting photos, Andreas. This is one of my favorites of the series. Interesting interaction with the people and an open view of what's going on. I'll bet that the people are generally very nice and courteous. At least that's how they appear. #4 Marokko_53380033_bea_s_web.jpg Just love the colors on this one! #6 Marokko_53380029_bea_s_web.jpg Nice Neil. But I don't see very much sharpness on this. I see a little in the table, but not really in the statue. For a 4x5, f8 isn't really that stopped down. If you were going for a portrait with the statue in focus on plenty of OOF areas, I think you may have a focus shift issue or focus plane issue. With those LF cameras, it is generally understood that you need to stop down at least three stops from the widest aperture to start to get corner to corner sharpness. I have to learn how to throw the frame around my images like that. Gives a really professional look. Okay so here is my first 4 x 5 .......I know its a boring picture but its just trying to help me understand all the fiddly bits of shooting 4 x 5 Large format. I am also learning a new Scanner the Epson Perfection V850 using both Vuescan and Silverfast. The first scan is with Vuescan 2017-01-29-0001.jpg The second is with the new Silverfast SE Image-1-(3).jpg The first thing I noticed is loads and loads of dust....not sure if its from the loading or from the camera but there was a bunch of dust. (I need to learn how to use the dust removal in Silberfast) The exposure wasn't to bad, I would have liked to have been maybe a 1/2 a stop more under but seeing as it was my first attempt I am happy with the result I'm looking forward to going out in the field and get some real shots Below is the final image shot at f8 1/8 ISO 100 Test.jpg Edited January 29, 2017 by A miller

I remind using SF with my Epson V700 and you have option "remove dust". My Epson scan is now sold. Guest Posted January 29, 2017 Share #27174 Posted January 29, 2017 I must add something important, in analog I don't run behind a sharp race , sometimes an imperfect picture like less sharp is also pretty for me and this is part of the term "art" that I mentioned above for film picture . A picture where everywhere or everything is sharp loses its charm and I call it "flat", or a photo where the "structure" is added is a "plasticized" picture... Henry - Sorry, but the idea of chasing sharpness and structure in digital processing, as if everybody did that, has nothing to do with the issue I raised of presenting film scans that are the equivalent of machine-made, automatic prints, often of a quality of what we knew as "drug-store" prints, and vaunting them for being "without correction". Although I value the contingent nature of film photography, and the possible imperfections, a banal photograph doesn't become good simply because it was made on film: there are excellent film images and there are excellent digital images. What I find tiresome, though, is the incessant derogation of digital. This thread would be more interesting and entertaining without that. _______________ Alone in Bangkok essay on BURN Magazine

Guess the lens has 50 mm. But it's a panoramic camera where the lens is rotated during exposure. f-)

I think that Wayne or Adam or perhaps Phil has the same judgment like me That said, as I have said several times , you are free to use the types of cameras that you want. As we are in a thread "I like film" I would like to demonstrate the opposite of what the majority marvels at a picture I call "synthesis" with approximate colors (see my previous post with color of the beach) or inhomogeneous black in b&w.
